Can you please point out where anyone has criticised people who CAN'T donate?

    first post in the thread.
if you're not on the register, why not? what use are you going to have for your valuable organs when you're 6 feet under?

A bit sarky is it not? It's critical in my opinion.

It's obviously aimed at the people who are perfectly able to donate, but choose to condemn others to death out of spite.

Of course I might have misjudged the OP, and it is critical of those who can't donate, but that would also be an incredibly stupid stance.

As it is, there are people effectively saying "I choose not to, but you can't criticise me because there is someone else who is unable to". It's a logic that's on an intellectual par with the refusal to donate in the first place.

Out of spite? Why out of spite? Why not because everyone has the choice and some people simply choose not to?

I think you're telling porkies there.
We're always being told how much it costs to run our hospitals, to do a transplant must cost the earth, both in time and money. How many tests do they need to do to make sure they have a match. I can't believe the hospital would go to all trouble to fit a new kidney if it wasn't in perfect working order.

Why would you choose not to though? What sort of person, who has the opportunity to save a life, at zero cost to themselves, would think "nah, actually I'm not going to bother"? It genuinely disturbs me.

as suited-aces points out, it was aimed toward people who refuse to be on the list as opposed to those who can't be on the list.

how can anyone have any bad feelings towards people who can't be a donor?

Some people don't know what it entails.

Some people don't want to think about death, let alone organ donation.

Some people may not even be aware of the register.

Some people may want to be laid to rest, 'whole'.

It might be someone's worst nightmare to be cut open, even though they obviously wouldn't know at the time.

Maybe a family member or friend has gone through organ donation with disasterous results, which puts them off.

    They're just a few reasons.

'disasterous' results? it killed them again?

It's very easy to find out.
Some people don't want to think about death, let alone organ donation.
No need to dwell on it, when the subject does come up it's very easy to join the register then forget about it again
Some people may not even be aware of the register.
Then it's not an active choice to refuse and I'm not criticising them
Some people may want to be laid to rest, 'whole'.
An incredibly selfish want. Some people want a chance at living.
It might be someone's worst nightmare to be cut open, even though they obviously wouldn't know at the time.
being buried or cremated is a pretty morbid thought too, but they deal with that
Maybe a family member or friend has gone through organ donation with disasterous results, which puts them off.
might be a reason to turn one down, but not to refuse to give.

    They're just a few reasons.

    See responses.

It's also disgraceful to see some of the myths perpetrated in this thread, trying to scare others off donating. Unforgivable.
