I prefer to give companies money rather than them taking it, that way I know what they have had and know they can't take any more, so if they ever accept Paypal I always pay via that method.

and the only card I have registered with Paypal is my credit card. I'd never link it with a bank account or debit card.

For high value transaction such as Purchasing Laptop which cost say £500, some sellers (or ebay itself ?) will only allow transaction with a verified account.

In the past, I also only had credit card. But when I won a bid for a laptop the transactio had to be canceled as I did not have a verified account. From taht moment I pu my account detail and was verified by PayPal.

Just want to narrow it, to make conclusion.

Those who manage to pay by credit cards. Do you have a verified bank account with eBay or you do not ?

I am asking becuase if you do not have verified Bank a/c, PayPal will not be able to take it from there.

It is pretty clear that PAyPAl preference ill be payment from BAnl Account rather than from credit card as it is intants and transaction cost will probably cheaper ??

I have a verified bank account and also credit cards registered on my Paypal account, I can pay via either, although the default selection is always bank transfer. You have to change your preferred payment method each time to use credit cards to pay. Also although it states it is instant bank transfer, in reality it takes 2 days (sometimes 3) before the payment is debited from my current account with the Halifax. It isn't removed from the available balance either at the time of buying.

I make all my payments via Paypal through my credit card. For both Ebay and non-transactions alike.

If you cash in your Paypal account, Paypal will use this first before topping up from (selected) credit card.

I use a Tesco credit card, so am able to accumulate several hundred pounds worth of coupons this way over the course of a year.

I got information from PayPal that the sellers on Paypal have the option to choose whetehr they want instant trarsfer from a verified a/c or Credit Card payments.

But I do not easily believe what they have said to me Before I hear more from any other members. I could see here that Paypal will prefer that peopla pay via a verified a/c as it will cost them less and also it is instants.

People who has a verified bank A/C with Paypal ?. When you are on Paypal Websites to pay something. Do you still have the option to pay by Credit Cards or you have to use Instant Bank Trasfers.

I am particuallry asking people with verified A/C as if you do not have a verified Bank A/C paypal can not choosee paying from a verified a/c !

I have 2 verified bank accounts on Paypal, and have still been able to pay by my CC's which I prefer to use anyway. I use Ebay quite a bit, and have been buying loads of bits for Christmas, including some stuff from the US, that I used my Clarity card for. They even let me change the foreign currency conversion from Paypals crappy conversion rate, to the standard Mastercard rate, so I got my US stuff even cheaper :)

  • Hello Adindas,

I too have seen the same behaviour since our bank account was verified by PayPal. I have been looking high and low for a solution and I think the only way is to change the bank account used and never again agree to the process of verifying the bank account.

Your bank may allow you to create an online savings account so you can use this account number rather than have to go through changing your current account.

If any other workarounds are found please let us know!!!

    Cheers, Zagazoo

    Dear zagazoo
Great info. thanks to confirm that has proven my case .....
Are there any other people out there having similar problem ...

TBH, Since my last posts I have few more payments again using paypals for the stuff that I bought from eBay; even for transaction value of Less than £5 , and from ordinary non-prof sellers, PayPal still do not offer credit card payment. PayPal CS inform me that the merchants have option to choose between to be paid by Instant transfer form current a/c or to be paid from a credit card. TBH I do not believe this easily as it is apparently more profitable, less costly and more secure for them if people pay by Instant bank transfer.

If you do not have a verified a/c, you will not be able to do high value transaction Let say few hundred pounds on Laptop, Tablet PC, smart phones etc on eBay.

I could see that to change a detail of verified current a/c to a saving a/c (presumably with zero balance) is a great idea as if PayPal can not find the balance to pay they will take it from a reserved credit card which is listed on PayPal (at least this is what they said when we pay via instant payment using a current a/c)

Have you tried to change your verified a/c to a verified saving account and it works?

Is there any effect on our credit rating in case PayPal cannot find money in our saving a.c and therefore will take it from credit card ?

I fully believe there are few people out there have a similar problems. If more people particularly the one who has a verified a/c could provide info on their experience we could learn it more and together thin how to find the solution to this ....

For those who has a verified a/c with PayPal what experience do you have when pay with PayPal, are they still allow payment by credit cards ?

Thanks for that who have responded to my queries. It help me to understand what is going on wit PayPal payment.

I used my cc this morning through paypal for a dvd I bought from eBay. I have to change the funding option, but I can still do it no problem. I don't know what the problem is with yours, but it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. As I said before, my account is fully verified with 2 verified bank accounts, as I used to sell on eBay a few years ago
