  • Hello!
I was wondering if anyone can help with some advice about bank charges when working for Appen?
I have recently received my first payment and it appears I have been charged $13 for wire transfer fees and then an additional fee of £8 by my UK bank.
I've looked into UK bank accounts which do not charge for incoming international payments and have found that Nationwide do not charge so that would remove the £8 fee but I am not sure about the $13 fee as this seems to be deducted at the US end of the payment.
The advice from Appen has been to open a US dollar account with a bank which has branches in the US. So far all the UK US dollar bank accounts I have found charge a monthly fee or have a required income level I cannot match.
Does anyone have any advice on the cheapest way to receive payment or any experience they could share?
    Thanks! :)

How long does payment take please?
I've just worked my first month, and am wondering roughly how long it is before the money is in the bank.
    £100 - £10,000
  • Last month they sent the payments on the 1st of April, I recieved it a few days later
  • I've just found an advert for Appen as a Web Search Evaluator on a third party website. Usually these sites are dodgy. Do they use third party websites to recruit people?

I'm not sure but you should be able to apply directly through them if your in doubt

I applied for a web search evaluator position a few days ago. How long does it take them to evaluate my application and accept/reject me?

Depends on the numbers who have applied (its usually constant recruitment in certain areas), and how closely you fit the criteria.

I've been invited to join a project after passing the online assessment. It says I need a microphone to participate in Qualification, why do I need it? Is there some kind of interview?

I started working for appen end of last year.....the microphone was needed to participate in a webinar.....only it wasn't actually needed!

I spent a while trying to get hold of one and was going to go buy one as everything said it would be needed. In the end I managed to borrow one, then didn't use it. In the webinar they talked about the program and other things and you could ask questions. People could ask via their microphones but you can also ask using a chat function. I'm pretty sure in that webinar (and in one i did previously that i didn't qualify for in the end) not a single person used the microphone. I've been to a couple of others since, and definitely in those everyone uses the chat function.

Expectations may differ by project of project manager......but in qualification I definitely did not use mine......and was very glad that I did not buy one!

And there was no interview or one to one discussions - any live contact for me has been the webinars, which are compulsory in qualification.....but talking aloud was not.

hi guys, i worked for appen for about 6 months from mid 2013-2014...now ive been a year jobless since i graduated and reapplied with my same stuff, got through to preliminary test once and failed (about 2-3 months ago), and now everytime i reapply I dont even get invited to preliminary test.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I not mention I worked there previously? I did mention this the first time I got access to the test again, but failed the test because I was cocky and rushed as I have previously done the job before...

I desperately need something like this to tide me over so I can earn and brush up on my degree skills to get employed
