There are 5 tired looking Granny Smith apples in the fruit bowl that no one will touch. Looking a little sad what can I do with them?Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

Peel core and stew. Freeze and use for crumble or pie. Or Core them, cut a slit around the middle and fill the empty core hole with dried fruit, brown sugar and golden syrup. Cook in the microwave for acouple of minutes. Serve with custard. Delicious!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Granny Smiths are my favourite apple for juicing - although tart, they don't taste that way when juiced up0

Definitely think about juicing, or slice up and put in cold (ice cold water) for twenty minutes or so before eating as normal.

Slice them into a saucepan, add a tablespoonful of sugar, one of water and a little bit of butter. Heat on stove till apples are mushy then pass through a sieve. Result - apple butter, which you keep in a jar in the fridge. Good spread on toast, added to cream, custard, ice cream or yoghourt, or used as a sponge cake filling. One life - your life - live it!0

You can use eating apples for many things you would use cooking apples for - pies, crumbles etc. You'll find that you don't need to add sugar to the fruit in pies and crumbles like you do with cooking apples. I'd go for crumble - virtually foolproof and a lot less fuss than making pastry.
Mind you someone mentioned baked apples - I think I've always used eating apples for these - haven't had any for ages - good stuffed with left over mincemeat, or brown sugar, dried fruit and cinnamon with a bit of butter. When I was a student we used to do a version which was wrapped in puff pastry and baked in the oven. My favourite was when it was bramble season and we used to core the apples and stuff them with blackberries and wrap them in puff pastry.
Now where's the custard......2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons0
