cook them down into apple sauce, and freeze for when you have pork?
grate them into a cake mixture with a bit of cinnamon and bake - hey presto, apple and cinnamon muffins?
    apple crumble?
    juice them?

    Hi babyboysmommy,

I would turn them into an apple pie. There are lots more ideas on this thread that should help:

Apple pie, apple crumble, apple braid, appley muffins. Anything baked is going to be great with slightly old apples! You could also cook them down on their own and make apple curd for spreading on breakfast toast. ;)

When I have wrinkley apples, I chop them and add them to home made sage & onion stuffing at the stage where you saute the onion & sage in a pan at the beginning. I make this stuffing mixture in bulk, divide into containers (roast dinner size portions with enough for sandwiches) & freeze.

  • Well you have all taught me how to use up any old bananas, I make muffins, banana bread & cake but now........................
I keep ending up with left over apples with a slight bruise or broken skin, what to do with them please?
If I peel them and cut into slices the family will eat them (lazy so & so's) but what can you suggest I use them for in an inventive way?
    Ideas please

  • Dorset tray bake, the recipe is on the Good Food website.
Dry them in a low oven, make apple sponge, apple muffins, add them to flapjack mix.

  • Peel and stew them. You can do this in the microwave - just peel, cut into pieces, put in a suitable container, add about 200ml water, cover with cling film and zap for about 5-10 minutes (depending on the type and amount of apples). Mash up with a fork; you now have apple sauce.
Freeze it in margarine tubs for when you need it.
This can be used as it is with pork.
Also can be used for pies, cakes, sponge puddings or apple turnovers. Sweeten according to taste or what you use it for.

If you cut them into small chunks and dry them out in a slow oven they go sort of caramelised and chewy. Good for snacks and topping cereals.
