Apple sponge
Just put a layer of stewed apples in the bottom of the dish and top with a basic sponge mix (4oz flour, 3oz sugar, 2 eggs, 3oz butter) bake in the oven for 20-25 mins and serve with custard.
Apple Scone Round
8oz plain flour
½ tsp salt
2 x tsps baking powder
2oz butter or marge
2oz caster sugar
1 med sized cooking apple, peeled , cored and coarsely grated
4 tbsps milk
To Glaze
1 tbsp demerara sugar (but you can use caster sugar)
A little milk- Sieve together flour, salt and baking powder.
- Rub in the butter.
- Add the sugar, then the grated apple and add enough milk to make a soft but not sticky dough.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly. (I then wrap in a little cling film and allow it to rest in the fridge for half an hour not neccessary but I find it helps )
- Roll out to an 8 inch circle and place on a greased and floured baking sheet.
- Score the scone into 8 pieces.
- Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake at 200c/gas 6 for 20 - 25 mins or until well risen and golden brown.
- Place on a cooling rack too cool.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Make apple curd? http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-applecurd.html?opt=rcalslow Although if eating apples they might a) need less sugar and b) need to be pureed as they won't pulp down like bramley apples.0

- Barter them for something someone else grows but you don't
- Give them away to people you know
- Put outside the gate with a notice "Help yourself".
(I actually got told by someone the other day that they had seen the first ever example of this in this part of the country:D. Admit to feeling rather cynical/"down" about the fact that I see MSE'ers reporting this happening elsewhere in the country - but had never seen any sign of it in my area till that comment the other day. Feeling a bit more hopeful about my bit of the country at last.....)0 -
