Oh Please! You are telling us a child was abducted by a man the night before, spent hours at the police station, slept in accordingly and the child's parents sent her off to school the next day without even speaking to her teacher????
Yes, life in the mean inner city of the 1960s was tough indeed. We lived in the heart of the "vice area" so to be honest by the age of 10 or 11 we were all used to being propositioned by dirty old men. Several of the kids had moms who were "on the game."
Poor kid got a real telling off for being late. The really strange thing was her twin sister was there on time and never said a word, although thinking about it she never did say much. The nun who was our teacher looked very shocked but never even apologised, not that we would have expected that in a million years.
Happy days but at least she wasn't hurt although obviously rather shaken up by it all. I don't remember a court case or anything so maybe he was never caught. Seems terrible to say but it was a bit of a five minute sensation for the rest of us.Sell £1500

Why not? perhaps like other posters on this thread they 'assumed' the child was lieing?
I'm suggesting that I know of no parent, however disinterested or disbelieving who would send their child to school, late, the morning after being abducted by a man and spending hours at the police station ( which rather suggests the claim of abduction was believed), without at least popping in to say "my child is late because.... Different times, I only remember a parent coming into school once and that was a dad who wanted to tell his son he had passed his 11+, the postman arrived after son went to school. Even when one of the nuns cut a boys trousers to make them into shorts (boys were supposed to wear shorts) the parents didn't come in. I think our parents weren't quite as involved as today's parents are.Sell £1500

thanks for all the different views people, i do believe what the boys have said, the other childs mum has rang me this evening and also said she will be going to make a statement so she obviously believes her child too, im hoping its just a case that the man thought he was intervening in the boys fighting but i will be getting it looked into.
if it was a case of that though i dont understand why he would push my child as he is nearly 2 yrs younger than the other lad and smaller.
i dont think its a case of the police not thinking its serious, when the lady phoned me she just said to pop in over the weekend at some point as we live near a busy town centre and theres always lots of incidents fri and sat nights so it wouldnt be dealt with until monday anyway.now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
Yes I know they were different times in some respects, I'm the same age. But even then I think child abduction was a 'parent popping into school' thing really ..admittedly I wasn't living in the city, but it was the time of the Moors murders ..though maybe it was after that, that more people were aware that there are nutters out there? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It was around the time of the Moors murders, can't remember if it would have been before or after. I don't think it was like this for everyone in cities but we were in a very deprived area and people did behave differently, in some ways it was great as we had loads of freedom but when I look back it was enough to make your hair curl, I would never have let my kids wander the streets like we did, usually a crowd of us and generally a few of us would have little brothers and sisters in tow, some would have a pram or pushchair. It is a wonder that none of us came to a sticky end.
Just checked and Moors murders were from July 1963 to 1965 and I think this would have been 62 or 63 so yes probably more innocent, or ignorant, times.Sell £1500
