Ryanair ---- Now Too Much Hassle?

  • UPDATE: Travel Republic and others are now offering Ryanair again but it seems as though a £10 booking fee is being charged (still a lot cheaper than Ryanair £48 for a family of 4) and the Security Code has been removed. I take it the booking must have fallen whilst this check was in place.

BTW where can I find a "Ryanair friendly" case which is under the limit as I have found many cases I look at are too large in at least one dimension?

Anyone with the prepaid card, can I just check, do you have to spend anything on it within 6 months or the whole initial balance of £156?

The cheapest and the "right size" case is from your local Sports Direct outlet for £9-99 20inch:

    Passport card:
You must spend something on it every 6 months but it can be a minimal amount.

This is very true but you`ve hit the nail on the head with "as long as RA are cheap".
I think the days of dirt cheap flights have long gone.
The novelty`s over of getting a £10 return fare to some unknown destination, just because it`s "abroad".
The popular destinations are no longer dirt cheap and RA`s rivals are competing well against them.
With all the hoops, obstacles and hidden charges being put in people`s way by RA for what should be a straight forward proceedure,
ie: booking a flight, is leading to a dearer fare.

I`ve always been a great fan of RA, getting 2p return fares to Dublin, £5 each way to Spain, etc. by always sticking to their T&C and have never had any problems whatsoever.

Now when I see a price, after "going through security" on their website to find it, I now have to mentally add another £12 to that return fare because of the card fee.
OK, I know I can apply and maybe get their cash passport card, after previously getting a Fairfx and an Elctron, but why should I.
It`s all too much hassle now.

M`O is pushing his luck to the extreme now, by alienating his biggest supporters.

Just to add, flying to Malaga next month and believe it or not Monarch was cheaper than RA and NO fees for using my debit card.
Absolutely agree with you. I did the Electron thing and the FairFx card with Ryanair, but this new card is just not acceptable and of course this is what Ryanair wants it to be, otherwise why would they impose it?
The EC regulatory bodies will eventually interfere with Ryanair's debit/credit card ebacke before too long.

Yes I think you're right. Buut as you say they are adding £10 and I think this is per person, so only £2 per person, per leg cheaper than Ryanair?

I flew Ryanair once and learned my lesson. Flight from the middle of nowhere to the middle of nowhere.

I fly BA mostly for short-haul, but Easyjet are fine too.

    Plenty of other options.

Yes that is sometimes the case, but not always so and of course you can discover the whereaboutsof the airport before you book.

Just checked a RA flight and it came up £45-98 return (basic)

On the Travel Republic it came up as:
    Flights
     Adult Return Ticket x 1 @ £41.98
    £41.98
    Taxes Fees and Charges x 1 @ £4.00
    £4.00
    Airline Failure Protection Insurance x 1 @ £0.00
    £0.00
    Web Check In x 1 @ £12.00
    £12.00
    Total
    £57.98
    All bookings
     Cost of all bookings
    £57.98

It looks like the full £6 each way charge is being added, so no better off.

I reckon Travel Republic must have been losing out here as they, surely, would have had to pay Ryanairs card charge?

Not if they use the ryanair prepaid mastercard
    Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!
  • https://www.lowcostholidays.com only charge 2.5% CC and 1.25% debit card for Ryanair flights.

Whats all this security check stuff ? I have been able to check flights no problem.
I use http://www.ryanair.com/ie (the Irish site) as you can view the whole weeks worth of flights. You do have to be able to add up though, as taxes aren't displayed until you click on a fare.

I do agree it is getting to be a bit of a pain though. Either really cheap fares or they are going to have to have a major shift in attitude. If theres only £5 or £10 in it, Id fly Easyjet or Jet2 and just not have the grief.

I might add, I've always found their cabin crew to be great on board. Its at the airport most of the hassle appears to happen
