December greetings everyone,
Can you put me down for
£150 again for December please?
Last month was good coming in £30 under budget, but with Christmas I'll need that money to help towards Christmas food...my brother is well off, so hoping he will do the same but not holding my breath :rotfl:so might give more. Mum always says she is happy to pay for christmas and can afford it, but why should she foot the bill?
Good luck for this month everyone!
Thankyou for blessing us all with another month of GCGC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

and I am pleased to say that I can't find anything to put in it to calculate!:D:j:j:j
I remember doing the demotivator in June last year for bought work lunches, cigarettes, Frijj milkshakes (not just a treat when on offer), Dominos pizza every other week..ugh . I'm sure there were other things too, but for that Total: £3,683
Now the most frequent bad things I can think of is biscuits (50p every few days) and a shop bought pizza each, once a week.. thats £62.50 per year on biscuits and £130 per year on pizza. Could be a lot worse! Total: £190.50:j
I'd love to see other people's before and afters! Before doing the GC, the cigarette spending I had already managed to eliminate, but we were still wasting money on things like bought bottled drinks when out and about. Doing the Grocery Challenge has made us accountable to our behaviour!GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

I have to say I am really impressed at how you have set such seemingly (to me anyway) low budgets and are managing to stick to them. That said I have probably cut my spending on groceries down by at least a third. I didn't count my grocery spends before but I reckon I was spending at least £130 each week and last month I came in at £370 for the whole month which is about £90 a week so not as good as some of you, but certainly better for me!
Spent £50 in Aldi yesterday and then last night I couldn't sleep so at 1am, I decided to go to Tesco for stuff that I would have bought today. There were no reductions but they were just putting out the "Christmas" fresh meats - legs of pork, pieces of beef, whole bone-in hams etc. so I decided to buy some, while I had the money. The good thing is that they were all half price so quite a bargain. I got a huge piece of pork, a huge piece of bone-in gammon, streaky bacon and something I haven't seen in Tesco before - a fresh extra large, Free range corn fed chicken - I got a 3.5 kg one for £5.50!
I also got things I needed - ST's, mitchum deodorant, butter (Lurpak on offer at 2 for £2), cornflakes (750g at 2 for £4), tea bags and other stuff so my total spend was £62.08. The good thing is that now my fridges and freezer are really full and I have most of my Christmas meat - I just have to buy sausagement, chipolatas and stewing steak and I am sorted (I get them from the local butchers).
corned beef and hm coleslaw for lunch (put this on kids' butties too) and for tea I am making chicken bacon and avocado salad with baguettes - I got an Aldi chicken yesterday and that is in the oven now so that it will be cool by teatime.Jane

Well today is the first day for my first ever Grocery Challenge!!
I told DH about it last week, and that I set a budget for £250 for the month. His reaction was 'As much as that?!?'
I honestly don't think he realises how much we spend on food/household supplies a month! I know I don't have an exact figure as Ive never kept reciepts etc for a whole month, but I know it's more than £250!
So, blank bit of paper went on the fridge last night, he has been warned that everything he buys must be written on said paper.
We shall see how this goes......
So far today I have spent £2.52Lunch for myself and my boss, her turn to buy tomorrow so aiming for a NSD tomorrow. Dinner tonight from the stores, so hopefully £2.52 is my whack for today x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
£16 spent already today. Someone had some duty free tobacco so OH got a couple of packs! Should last him the whole month and half the price of in the shops. Id love him to give up but you cant do it for them!! Hes not feeling great today so possibly meal out tonight will be cancelled so that will help the budget along!!January Grocery Challenge £54.72/£250

Staying on track so far, with help in meal planning from my new River Cottage Veg book. I struggle to eat the same things too often, so this has given some much needed inspiration. I am now trying to plan our Christmas meal - DH is happy to eat veggie, so it shouldn't need much more than we have in the cupboards.
I have managed a NSD today, as I think I have now finished christmas presents. I have spent the day finishing DH's xmas pyjamas and making some felt decorations for the tree. I have also got a sour dough loaf on the go which needs attention every hour, so I am not going anywhere.
Paid off a credit card in full yesterday, finally down to one which is on 0%. :j
Good luck keepig to your GC, I am inspired every day. Thank you:)Debt free and saving :j0
