Well today is the first day for my first ever Grocery Challenge!!

I told DH about it last week, and that I set a budget for £250 for the month. His reaction was 'As much as that?!?'

I honestly don't think he realises how much we spend on food/household supplies a month! I know I don't have an exact figure as Ive never kept reciepts etc for a whole month, but I know it's more than £250!

So, blank bit of paper went on the fridge last night, he has been warned that everything he buys must be written on said paper.

We shall see how this goes...... :)

So far today I have spent £2.52 :( Lunch for myself and my boss, her turn to buy tomorrow so aiming for a NSD tomorrow. Dinner tonight from the stores, so hopefully £2.52 is my whack for today x
Thats typical for a DH! They really have no idea so "well done" to you for taking control. The problem he may find is remembering what he bought during the day so how about he writes a memo on his phone or texts you his spends? I hope your boss returns the lunch purchase-although for 2 of you it was a low spend. I always take my own lunch with me as I buy rubbish otherwise-I do get rather tempted by Greggs and my waistline has suffered for it-so-no more! I am treating myself to a meal out on Sat eve with my ex colleauges but I shall still be good and keep it in the budget with the theory that if it goes in my mouth-it goes on the list!:Dd is cooking lunch for me now and its chicken again as we have loads of it.I may go out for a wander around the shops today but only to top up with stuff for Ds sarnies. I often buy the offcuts/trimmings of ham etc which many shops now sell. I have a good look through the packages and pick out the best cuts!:money:
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

I got an email from topcashback a few days ago with £a 10.10 cashback offer for 'new sign-up and purchase' at Mr T. This is in addition to a code for '£10 off your first online grocery shop when you spend £50 or more'. So I can potentially pay £30 for £50 worth of shopping.

The cashback expires in 3 days and the code at the end of December. My question is, do I need to buy it by the 4th or does it need to be delivered by the 4th? It doesn't say on the website...

Ideally what I'd like to do is buy on the 4th and get it delivered as late as possible as I'm trying to make do with what I have already. But obviously I don't want to miss out on the offer! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I'm afraid I can't be certain but would presume that it is at the time you pay for it, so delivery date shouldn't have an effect.

I hope for you that I am right!

but you don't really pay for your MR T's order til it's delivered, i'm no help either but i would imagine it would be ok if you ordered before the 4th, maybe email them and ask?

  • Looking like should be an unexpected NSD today... discovered last night the DH had miss read the balance on our food account last time he checked and rather than there being £3 left there was £33 left :j had a quick trip to A1di and stocked up on their cheap veggies and other goodies and now have nice full cupbords and don't need to do the big shop today I'd expected to have to do.

As an added bonus we'd had to call the plumber round because we were finding water in the kitchen after we'd been in the bath. Turns out it wasn't too complicated a problem and he did the work in exchange for a brew and a biscuit :)

  • Thank you HelenPie and Quintwins. My guess is that I can order it on the 4th but I have emailed them just to be on the safe side.

  • Hey All,
Just wanted to say thanks for running such a top thread. Anyhoo, I've decided to go veggie for this month, purely as an experiment to see how much cheaper, if at all, it will be. I managed to come in well under budget last month, so I'm going to lower it to £60 for December.
I live alone and am working all over christmas, so menu for December will be the same as usual.
    Good luck all

We've started the calendar month with an NSD - hopefully the first of many.

Plus, as a bonus, I managed to declutter two biiiig bags of non-SW-friendly or just plain excess foodstuffs from my ridiculous hoard of grub to pass on to friends who needed it. As I was bagging it all up for Him Indoors to lug over there, I realised - I had not paid anything like full price for a single one of those items, which made it all the easier to give it away. It's nice to be able to help - and the :money: effect strikes again :rotfl:
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o

£4 spent today in the £ shop. Toothpaste, freezer boxes, spare packet toothbrushes for unexpected visitors (mainly GC) and bird seed. last item doesn't make a lot of sense as I am making bread pudding, breadcrumbs etc with our leftover bread to save money then paying for seed for the birds as we don't have anything else to give them.:rotfl:
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
