Can they re-write the highway code first? how many of the signs in the highway code and might get tested on, do you actually see on the road?0 -
I would say a good majority of them. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

But hey, better give me a fine and/or lock me up, because there's no excuse for running out of fuel, right?
I think maybe those stupid people who keep the needle below 1/4, by topping up daily with £3 worth of fuel? They always get caught out eventually and it does cause havoc, as often they're in the middle of a busy town centre!
I've run out of fuel before now in the Kitcar, because at that time most petrol stations had stopped selling super-unleaded petrol and regular 95ron would have caused serious engine damage. I rolled into an ESSO forecourt JUST as it ran out
There are many good excuses, but being stupid is not one of them :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I would say a good majority of them.
i might have phrased that badly; i mean 'how many do you see personally and often'. Rather than how many are actual signs that you would see.
I dont see that many different ones on the majority of my trips, it's just the common ones over and over again.0 -

Been there plenty of times. Try running a Japanese import that is still mapped for 100 RON, and thus the only safe fuel is Shell V-Power
Back on the lights, however. The other day I followed a Ford Escort van into the business park I work on, and had to brake a little bit harder than I would have liked because they had no brake lights at all. Luckily I leave a decent following distance so did not drive into the back of them.
I followed them into the place they were going and told them, and they were doing a light check. No brakelights, no indicators, one sidelight that was incredibly dim, and if you happened to brake with that sidelight on, the indicator would light up.
While they were in the middle of demonstrating how poor 90s Ford electrics are, a copper wonders out of the building and asks them not to park in the "police vehicles only" space.
He didn't say anything about the lights. :mad:0 -

Have a look at these, I am pretty sure you see almost all (or variations of) of these during a year of driving, most of them you will see at least once in a month. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

The glare from rear fog lights can often be enough to encompass a large part of the retina, thereby obscuring any other lighting.
Perhaps in theory, in reality that has never, ever happened to me. I agree its bad practice and annoying but it doesn't stop you from seeing brake lights0 -
No excuse?
I used to live up north, and whilst away in Southampton I had all my money and cards stolen.
I had 3/4 tank of fuel and, luckily, a 5 gallon jerry can in the boot that was partially filled.
I ran out of fuel on the M42, in roadworks no less, at 11PM, filled up from the can and ran out of fuel again at the bottom of a road in Walsall where a friend of mine (who I only knew via the internet) lived who was nice enough to let me stay the night.
Luckily I was able to go online, do a bank transfer and get said friend to take out some cash for me, fill the jerry can and be on my way.
But hey, better give me a fine and/or lock me up, because there's no excuse for running out of fuel, right?
Yes, well you shouldn't have undertaken such a long journey with only a 3/4 tank full in the first place.
You could easily have explained your situation to a garage in Southampton who would no doubt have just taken your details to reimburse later.
I'd guess there were many other ways to resolve this siuation.
Instead, you chose an option to go on motorways knowing full well you would break down.
So yes, you're the type I would fine.0
