I think they should be named and shamed. It is a bl00dy disgrace the way employers abuse the Work Trial and Work Placement schemes. They know they can get free labour for up to 4 weeks via the Work Placement scheme, then push the jobseeker onto Work Trial for another 4 weeks. Only one problem they haven't thought-of, anyone undertaking Work Trial can leave the scheme and go back on to JSA at any time and without any come-back.
The rules need to be tightened to make potential employers pay £6.50 p/h to each Work Trial/Placement person they give a trial to. With the money being refunded from the DWP should the person be taken-on.Never Knowingly Understood.

Why should everyone else who pays taxes contribute to these people being so picky over their jobs. If you dont have a job and you have bills to pay then you really should take any job that you can rather than depending on the state.
It's not really a job if you're not being paid is it?0 -

And you'd go out and work for a week, over Christmas, for £65.70 would you? I flippin wouldn't!! What's wrong with these stores just giving the people proper jobs on proper wages, so they don't need to claim JSA in the first place!!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

In fact it costs more to put an unemployed person in to a firm on these Work Placement schemes as the unemployed person gets extra money to cover travel.Never Knowingly Understood.

The problem is that the shops are unlikely to employ the long term unemployed, they will take the people who maybe already have a part time job or that are recently unemployed.skintandscared wrote: »And you'd go out and work for a week, over Christmas, for £65.70 would you? This is the governments idea of giving long term unemployed a chance they havent been able to create for themselves in two years.0 -
I think richardc1983 is completely missing the point. These companies should be taking on paid staff over the christmas period thus giving some of these people proper jobs. Instead they are relying on unpaid labour paid for by the general population. I agree many of these people should be forced to work but it should be for charitable organisations or for the common good, not lining the pockets of big business.
Does this shop sell everything at one price ?0 -
I think we should all boycott the stores in question.0

What are you going on about? I was talking about a big company having quite a few unpaid staff i.e taking advantage when they should be getting paid staff to do the work.
The person is still depending on the state doing unpaid work so I dont know what you are talking about.
Its part of the government back to work thing though isnt it. Most of these people would not be bothered to apply for it anyway so this way they are forced to do the work as a work experience. Thats what I have been reading. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
it's not just £65.70 for some though is it. It's £65.70 a week, plus their housing benefits and council tax benefits and any other benefits they get. So should they get minimum wage, plus their other benefits? or have their other benefits stopped and paid minimum wage for the duration?
If they get the rest of their benefits and rent etc paid, and still have £65.70 in their pocket at the end of the week then they're not doing too badly are they0 -
why are we paying their benefits so the shops can have free labour at least they should pay THEIR benifits..tell me who the ashops are and ill get some leaflets and give them out to the shopper ....imgoing to tesco on saturday (not to shop)“Life isn't about finding yourself.
