  • Well, back from shopping and first the good news, I've got £35 saved up on a Boots card - I was thinking of spending this on myself in January as a treat but now I'm thinking it would be more MSE to watch the Boots offers through the year and spend on the bonus weekends buying items that can be used as presents or on my make up (Clinique - it's the only pampering I have) so that by next Christmas I have a very nice amount saved up. What would you do? I have spent £260 but that's my youngest son's presents bought - he wanted an xbox 36o and I managed a cracking deal at G*me - the Gear 0f War console with the game plus f0rza 4 and a downloadable copy of Chyris1s 2 along with 12 months Live for £254.95 it's only on offer until Thursday though. Previously, I would have put this on a credit card or even worse a catalogue and not thought about it but I will have paid cash for everything this year. I also bought the last of the nephews and nieces gifts - a couple of books (£15 they're so expensive!) which just leaves me with my dh, a home made hamper for my Mother and Father in law (£60 budget) and one friend (thermals).

The bad news is that I have clearly spent so many years really, really focussing on debt and budgeting that I have actually come home feeling very worked up and jittery :( Does anyone else ever feel like this?

I have exchanged some club card vouchers for G0ldsmiths and my eldest son chose a gift however I was a 50p voucher short so I've bought some off my m-i-l and the tokens were accepted but now I've read they might not be accepted at G0ldsmiths because it will be two different names on the vouchers  Feel gutted because it will mean the watch I could have got for free I will have to put £60 towards which I have the money but it would have meant I could have spent the £60 on something else ifyswim. Am I being greedy?:EasterBun

Hello everyone, wow what a fantastic thread!:T I'm still trying to work my way through all of it, but in the meantime I would love to join please

I have dipped in and out of mse for years:o but I have made some pretty good progress this year:D now I really need to see it through to the end!

So my total is £6164.55 it is not my total amount because I haven't included our loans, we are going to let them run on as they haven't got long left, but the £6164.55 is all other debt we have and if we could get rid of it by next christmas I would be absolutely over the moon:rotfl:

I don't think you're being greedy at all! If you've made the effort to sort out the vouchers and got it in your head that you wouldn't have to spend cash then it'd be really annoying to have to reach for your purse!! Fingers crossed they'll take all the vouchers!!

Can I join please :). I have £5608.30 of debt and would like it gone by next Xmas. Most of the debt is my car loan and this is due to end April 2013 but would like it to finish by the end of 2012. Many thanks

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but as you all seem like friendly people I thought I'd give it a go -
OH is being v supportive of me trying to get rid of my debt, but he has around £2k of debt (overdraft) himself which he only makes minimum payments on. How can I convince him to have a 'lightbulb moment' and join me on the DFW journey? Or should I even try? Is it just something I have to let him figure out on his own?

Well done to everyone who has made payments so far btw, roll on payday for me so I can make a start!

TBH I've found that it's up to them to have their lightbulb moment. My OH doesn't care about saving 30p here and there, he is only interested when you can save £20 plus. Otherwise to him it isn't worth it! Just have to carefully dripfeed him good news when you get lots paid off and how good it feels :)
