The "Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2012" challenge

I've been a bit slow getting around to making a payment, but here goes! I had an old account I wasn't using with a small amount in it, so have transferred it and paid it off my CC. Still waiting for ebay/paypal to release all my money from sales as I am a new seller, so they are waiting a bit. Then I can add that. So, today I have paid off £85.00
Have also had a trip to Asda today and hobbycraft for making some christmas baked goods, am going to experiment with flapjacks, rocky road and brownies - if they are good, people will be getting them as presents! I was a bit disappointed that Asda wasn't as cheap as I had imagined. maybe will stick to Tesco as our nearest Asda is a bit of a drive, and tesco is around the corner, so could be false economy. Right - kitchen here I come!
Also - can I change my amount owed to £2529.33? I know I have an overdraft but as this keeps chaging, I don't know what the total is. I'd like to concentrate on the CC debt, and the overdraft will come up every month with that. Thanks!!Lightbulb moment Nov 2011

Hello new people :j this is fab, how many are we now?they just want to go out and get completely wrecked tonight and think I'm just boring cos I don't want to drink as much as them ... I've had enough of the stupid actions when I'm drunk (especially with work colleagues and boss - recipe for disaster in my eyes), world spinning, the hangover, the being sick and the losing of 2 days cos my hangovers are so bad.
I learnt my lesson after first proper job Christmas do, and I just don't mix work and alcohol - you're right, too much potential for disaster. But I also keep quite a defined line between colleagues and friends (some are both, but only those who know not to mix up the issues), so it doesn't really interrupt things for me.
Im moving house today so might have some more money to pay off debts with tomorrow when I work out what I've got left after paying man in van. Feeling a bit strange about the move thoughbas been asked by my friend to pay my deposit money to her bf that's moving out, not to the landlady. Going to tell her it goes to the landlady or no one at all though it's a business transaction and needs to go in a deposit scheme. Hope she understand this or I'm going to be homeless :-/
Hm, I think you're right - the landlady should be doing inventory check etc and we don't want you being held liable for anything the bf caused. Hopefully your friend was just thinking of saving time, but better safe than starting off on wrong foot with landlady.

:T First of all well done for paying so much of your debt! I was wondering how long you had to wait to get the claim through? Im a nurse and i remember someone telling me a few years ago to do it but i forgot about it! And also do they ask for tax codes? thanks in advance!
Hi Sam09
I haven't waited long at all, maybe a month but I've heard it can take up to 8 weeks. I need to send back some information on my current job as they want more detail. You can def claim as a nurse, read loads about nurses claiming on a thread on this forum. I didn't give any tax codes, just all my details about me and my working life and what that involves in terms of uniform and the fact that it is a uniform and cannot be worn outside work! If you do a search on this forum, you will get loads of information on a thread and also Martin Lewis has written an article about reclaiming money for wearing a uniform. Hope this helps

hello lovely debt free'ers:santa2:
Just wanted to post to say I'm still here and I am so impressed with how well everyone is doing!:D:T:beer:
I still haven't started yet, I'm still waiting to get my finances sorted out but I have been spending a lot of time sorting out our budget, making sure I've got enough bank accounts and playing around with the snowball calculator (especially appropriate at this time of year:p) so I'm really hoping all this planning will really help when I can get started:)
I really really want 2012 to be the year I'm finally in control of money rather than it controlling me, and I think this thread is what is going to help me the most:D I have already learnt some mse lessons though, and I have been saving for xmas all year, it feels so good to have the money there- stress free, I am enjoying that feeling so much0 -
Evening all, man and van was £51 so I gave him a tip to make it £60 as he helped loads even though he was only meant to point and tell us where to put in van. I'd budgeted for £100 so I'm treating my bf, the mate that helped move and his gf to a Thai/vietnamese takeaway tonight, will still come under the £100 so I promise to pay off more debt tomorrow.
Mf0u I also try not to get too plastered, I always say the wrong thing or have a Barnet with the OH because we're both stubborn.
Ooh sold his car stereo for £6 more than I expected, and a jumper of mine for £1. That'll go towards freemans.
Hope you all have a good evening, I'm doing well with this weeks time challenge and feeling loads better for the extra sleep.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Evening!
I've just watched that 'Guide to Penny Pinching' programme on 4OD and it's spurred me on to be more frugal! I had a big ebay spree a few weeks ago and I thought I had sold everything possible, but I'm now going to have another root through my things and see if I can unearth anything else to generate some more cash!
So far I've wiped £1045 off my debt (well, £795 of that is in an ISA - my debt is owed to my Dad at 0% interest so I pay him back £250 per month and then put everything else I can into my ISA so it can earn the interest, I'll pay it to him at the end of the FY).
I'm a bit addicted to this debt-busting malarkey now - I'm desperate to find new ways of saving money! Does anyone have any extra tips?0 -
Evening all,
WELL DONE to everyone who has made payments, we're all doing so well! I've had a few slip-ups this week - buying lunch at work instead of taking my own - but also spent £30 on a Gourmet Society card for 12 months which gives 50% off or 2for1 deals at loads of restaurants -so kind of moneysaving?!
Anyway, I've paid £115 from the overdraft and £35 off the CC, so off to update my signature - although the interest on my o/d will scupper this next week...
Love Your Libraries - they're moneysaving! :T
