  • I think credit unions differ quite a lot so it will depend if you like the one where you live. I did look into my local one as I would have liked to support them, but was a bit disappointed to find them advertising 'low' interest rates of 28% APR  - I would complain about a storecard provider doing that! Plus they only mention access via the post office - not going to work for a 9-5er :(

Although I've just remembered I might be able to use a couple of other unions that are based around profession rather than location... *off to google*

    Rosa xx

Mine can charge interest of 29% I think but they try not to do that, their standard loans (not based on savings) can be anything from 9.9 up to 30% but you would find them very unwilling to lend at that interest rate which is quite ethical of them. ALso mine you can just send money as an online payment through internet banking. Did you find one for profession? Mine is for both living in the area OR working in the area which is good. :)

I can't wait to post my first payments...it's felt like forever!!!!!

Ruby I think you are doing the right thing, there's no point making yourself ill.

CW2 congratulations on your payment, I've got to wait until the 8th!

LULALOLLY- when I had my wisdom teeth out they became infected and I took hundreds of pain killers but what helped the most was a warm salt and water mouth wash.

ANTONIA1 - I have used Tesco vouchers towards a watch for my 21 yr old son, he knows his budget is £200 so this has enabled him to have the cash he wanted for his holiday and also to have some wrap ups and a lovely £135 watch, we work hard and spend our money on groceries we should spend our vouchers knowing that we are buying our family a beautiful, well thought about gift! The guy you work with sounds like a prat and I wonder if he even knows that his wife swapped vouchers for his present :rotfl:

DEBTFREEJU - that's wonderful news, just stay focussed and you'll clear it in no time.

I have a confession :o I have a big night out on Saturday and have borrowed a beautiful dress BUT couldn't resist the most beautiful pair of shoes reduced from £85 to £20 :T I rarely buy shoes and have told dh that they can be my Christmas present (this is the amount we've set ourselves)......I did borrow the dress though :o

Amazing amount paid off so far - congratulations everyone xx

I know what you about it feeling like it's taking forever to make your first payments! It's a great feeling when you do though and well worth the wait.

I think buying a pair of shoes for £20 when you're borrowing a dress is a fabulous idea especially if it's going to be a present too! The point of paying off this debt is not to be hermits and not treat ourselves but to make sure that these are not the norm. If we forbid ourselves everything then we are doomed to failure. I think you've striked a very happy balance hun xxx

I had to renew my train season ticket today: £3,888!! I get an interest free loan from work for it and then pay it back over 10 months every year, deducted from my salary. Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this is because.....

.....I got a £14 discount for earlier disruptions :j:j Ok, so £14 isn't much out of the total (and certainly not considering the 7 hour journey, stuck on a powerless train during that "disruption"!) but, it's money I wasn't expecting and will be putting it straight to my credit card on Monday morning.

That took a long time to write.....!
