Listen 'Peter', it came across like that, I didn't mean it like that. An example : Say if my husband left me today, & next week I found out he was claiming things I know he is not entitled to, I would report him, revenge yes, !
I only commented on what you wrote.
Fair enough if it came across wrong or I read wrong.

    Some people have commented on
    -hint of jealousy
-their ex doesn't pay enough etc.

Why should the system be used in a manner to get back at people ??

Many of these reports are malicious and a tool for revenge, which means the system gets bogged down in looking at nonsense allegations.

I wouldn't want friends who are the sort of people who would lie and cheat to get money they aren't entitled to

If they are cheating the system, then what better way, I'd do it with a bit happy smile on my face.

Why should the system be used by people who are not entitled to it and are commiting fraud?

And before you say it, yes I do need to grow up....spent most of the weekend playing the Xbox 360 with a mate, running around shooting each other!! Highlight of it all was watching my mate go down with a cunning sniper headshot I carried out! (yay me) So please, do tell me to grow up, and no, I don't want too :D

You obviously have a "good relationship" with your ex & know all this information is exactly up to date !!??

You drone on about how hard it is for you.
How hard is it for your ex, do you really know what is going on to make these accusations ??
    .

I have an 'amicable' relationship - my daughter hardly sees him. Yes it's up to date - i'm good friends with his brother and brother's wife.

'drone' on? I beg your pardon?! I very briefly explained my own situation and take on things, I'd hardly call that droning, but hey, if you are unable to grasp the correct meaning of our language, I'm not going to waste time explaining it to you..

I agree. There was a neighbour I know of has six children and was claiming as a lone parent!! !!!!!! how do you get away with that???!! The husband was claiming incapacity and working full time cash in hand! Ironic because she was very vocal about the fact and quite proud of it. She had a fall out with her friend and they reported her for fraud.

People have said jealous! Well I bloody hell would be!. Huge Flat Screen TV the size of the entire wall, 2 leather Suites in the space of a year. Kids kitted out in all the nice gear. I am on my own with two kids and working my !!!! off and she has never done a days work in her entire life.

Why should I slog my guts out for them???

The OP was called nosey because she has attempted to estimate there income. It's not rocket science really is it?

Its wrong and it should be reported!!

And if the situation has been read wrong, they have nothing to hide. It makes me laugh really, all these posts saying there is much more to worry about & your not a true friend are talking !!!!!! IMO.
I can't really say anything else, Mrs Optimist has said it all. Brilliant post.

The problem is people think its ok to go through a fraud investigation if you have done nothing wrong, when in fact there is lots of things wrong with it.

Too many people in this country just thinking of themselves and perhaps might see someone lifting a table who doesnt work and immediatly think fraudster thinking they know it all when they dont know nothing.

How many would report fraud if the law didnt protect your identity?

I wouldnt ever report friends even if I was 100% certian they commiting fraud good for them if they getting a better lifestyle out of it.

Does this make me a bad person in society? maybe, but I know the only people who may ever look out for me are friends and family, the government certianly doesnt care for my well been.

Agreed - whether people report out of revenge or otherwise - what does it matter?

if I saw a mugging I would report it. if I saw a burgalry I'd report it. Same difference in my book.

Theft is theft - the fact they are in a way stealing out of the pot of money that I am forced to pay into makes me extreemly angry - Escpecially when things like the NHS are forced to close wards and costs, schools haven't got enough money to serve decent food or provide new books and the old age homes are in some cases not fit for animals let alone the elderly who are forced into them.
I don't necessarily agree with "shopping" someone for revenge - reporting them for theft no matter who they are and why would be the right thing to do. I physically feel sick when I meet people who brag about scamming the system and I would have NO issues reporting them. Same as I would have no problem reporting someone for DUI, stealing out of a till or filling their car and driving off without paying.
Having a baby is NO excuse for stealing, it's no better than going into a shop and taking what you want and walking out without paying.
    Stealing is stealing.

I doubt benefit fraud has much impact on NHS ward closures. In fact it has zero impact. The money involved is a drop in the ocean.

I wouldnt shop any friend or family.

If I seen a stranger who I believed was fiddling the system lets say a neighbour, rather then going straight to the phone I would confront them and ask them first before jumping to conclusions. Let them explain their situation, they may well tell me to bog off but I find that more respectable then sneakily doing stuff behind someones back and assuming the worst of them.

Stealing money from a till is something completely different and is a blatant crime which I would report, if a friend did shop lifting or something again I wouldnt report them but I would try and persuade them to own up.

This attitude from taxpayers where they hold benefit claimants on par with a bank robber as criminals is fueled by their anger having to pay tax and seeing someone get more out of the system them theirselves. I have come to realise there will always be some benefit fraud, it cannot be wiped out without causing legitamate claimants to not get benefit, it is by far the better option to make sure anyone who deserves benefit to get it at the cost of some fraudalent claims, the only result of this aggressiveness to make the welfare system tougher is the people who need it have it tougher. Those of you who report someone and hear nothing think twice before you ring back, its probably because they found nothing to be wrong and you wonder why the system is lagged, its because of all the false repeat allegations.

Drop in the ocean maybe for that one family. Now multiply it by 10,000

Then multiply that figure you get from 10,000 by the 52 weeks in the year.

Then see how many bed's could have been paid for or how many wards could have been paid for. Do those millions being paid out still amount to 'zero impact'?

That line above is really very silly. They are not the only family in the country commiting benefit fraud. And I expect it's a lot higher than 10,000 too!
