The way I look at it, those cheating the benefits system are stealing from ME, a tax payer. There are also certain elemnts of this country, for example Carers, who do a fantastic job for a really pathetic amount of money, who could be awarded a lot more if the government cracked down on cheats and redistributed the money saved (ideal world I know) If I had my way the whole system would be overhauled, and the money taken from the workshy and given to those that REALLY need it. I do not object to my taxes helping those less fortunate, but my husband and I can't afford a £1000 leather sofa and we both work - why should we subsidise someone who is cheating the system so that they can have things we can't? I would shop ANYONE I know was defrauding the system and all my friends and family know that too. My conscience is clear. I wonder how many posts on here having a go at the OP are actually on benefits themselves? Or have or are still defrauding the system? Some of the posts have really astounded me.

    Couldn't agree more.....

Out of plain noseyness you mean!... sitting "working out" other peoples income!.. and how did your DP find out.. snooping through her letters?

    Your jelous end of..

Thank god your not my friend.

Yes what they r doing is wrong.. but you dont even have the guts to speak to them to their face before working out their incomings.

At least speak to her first.. before reporting her (although she will prob think your an interfering git) but at least your concience will be clear.

Sheryldoc - is there any need to be so nasty? reading through your replies on this thread makes me wonder whether you are commiting the same kind of fraud as is being discussed - not saying you are, just wondering why your replies are so harsh

To add my two pence worth on this matter - my partner and I have two children, he works almost 12 hour days and brings home a good wage but he pays hundreds in tax each month which goes to fund these fraudsters. I also work full time and over half my salary goes on nursery fees, so were' not that much better off with me working.

i'm currently doing a degree course alongside working full time and looking after two children so that I can get a better paid job and support our family better - obviously, once I am better paid, i'll get taxed more and even more of my hard earned money will go to fund people like this.

Incidentally, my first child's father who left us when she was 1 year old is shacked up with a girl and their two kids, they lie about living together, he claims JSA and works on the side - do you know what the csa take from him to give towards my daughter? £2.50 per week! it's both an insult and a joke.

Why should we turn a blind eye as one poster has suggested? Why should the honest amongst us work our socks off only to be taxed heavily and the money be given to these cheats? Stuff their friendship! It's stealing at the end of the day.

I wanst being nasty maybe your jst too sensitive..

And I can assure you I am not commiting any such fraud.. I dont claim any benefits I am at university and not entitled to any so wonder away..

I am going to uni to ensure that I never find myself in a situation where I would feel the need to even consider such actions.

I think benefit fraud is wrong on every level.. my argument was with the way the OP was going about it.

End of day I have my thought you have your OP has theirs.. and we all think we r right so no1 is going to concede here.. and why should they.

( can I also jst mention.. your the taxes we pay dont all go to help peeps on benefits.. Maybe some of you smoke/drink or are overweight and tax payers are paying for your NHS would you be as angry then?)

Subject topics like this will never have everyone agreeing.. and could last forever.

I agree that everyone will have their own opinion on topics such as this and we can't all agree. But I maintain that your responses have been overly abrupt and confrontational - something which you may need to work on if you are to succeed in your chosen career of nursing! Just as you would not want to the OP as a friend, I sincerely would not want you ever at my bedside with an attitude like that.

LoL.. Thank you for the career advice however its not required nor is it welcomed.

If you have nothing more to say thats relevant to the OP rather than my career then I suggest we end this delightful conversation here.

You obviously have a "good relationship" with your ex & know all this information is exactly up to date !!??

You drone on about how hard it is for you.
How hard is it for your ex, do you really know what is going on to make these accusations ??
    .
  • I am afraid have worked in benefit fraud, it is difficult to prove LT (living together) as people normally have their post got to another address etc etc. The officers have their hands tied by rules and regulations and as someone elsewhere posted in this section, nothing much is gained, very few are sent to prison or receive any penalties that would affect their lieves and quite honestly it is a thankless task. It takes an awful lot of detection to prove LT. Monies are handed out by Govt for detection rates so therefore its easier to go for some of the easier targets in life to obtain Govt monies and reach targets. Let me out of this country that sets stupid targets and only ends up defrauding itself.

So, OP have you decided what you are going to do yet ???!!!
:D I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D
  • this is prob going to offend some peeps again.. and I wont apologise for that as it cant be helped.. but I jst want to point out something ive noticed..

Most people (thankfully) think benefit fraud is wrong.. However the one who report peeps or get all worked up about it always seem to have an agenda its the ex bf/jelousy/fallen out with the person/dont like the person etc etc rather than it being for the greater good its more of a way of getting back at someone and thats jst pathetic.

I AM NOT SAYIN THIS IS THE OPs REASON.. although she did admit to being jelous about the money im jst saying most peeps do the right thing for the wrong reasons.
