P&P grumble

£1.51 is a lot to be overcharged on postage especially when the items were sent in a mailing bag.
If the seller did pay £1 for a mailing bag that leaves 51 pence for a label and some cellotape, if the seller sells a lot they may add 10pence to each item to store in a pot to cover loses rather than charging each buyer 74pence for RD. It's not unreasonable and it's sad that others think that this particular example is.
Any buyer fretting over 51pence needs to gain some perspective. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

All my items are posted in new padded envelopes which cost more than the price of a mailing bag, I very much doubt one mailing bag was £1. My postage charges are either Free, the actual cost of around 20p over but never 51p or £1.51 over yet I have 3 low stars for P&P charges. My buyers have never complained about the P&P charges or left neutral or negative feedback so these buyers leaving low stars for my postage costs are the ones that need to gain some perspective.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
Holy Moly! I was having a little grumble! I wasn't incensed and raging about £1.51/50p! I am an established seller on eBay with over 3000 feedback and never overcharge on postage so it just annoys me when other sellers do, no matter how much or how little!
Yes I was happy with the item price, yes he overcharged slightly on postage but I have my items and I am happy and will be leaving positive feedback0 -

And don't forgot to rate the Postage stars. I would personally hit 1 or 2 stars for being overcharged £1.51
I have never rated the stars when leaving feedback but since I have had it done to me I will be leaving low stars when deserved.
I sold two items yesterday on BIN to the same buyer. Immediate payment was required so the buyer could not pay for the two different items together. I weighed the items and noticed it would cost no more to send them both together so refunded the buyer the 2nd P&P charge and left a message to explain - a very happy customer. As a seller then you should know just how damaging those stars are!!
I hardly think that £1.51 is worth the possibility of making someone loose their livelihood - fair enough they chose to overcharge but really a 1 or 2 star is ridiculous - maybe a 3 at the most if it's annoyed you that much!!!
Do you ring up Argo's and complain about their post charge when they send something through RM and charge £3.99 for it?? No I very much doubt it!
I've been overcharged by over £10 - then I complained but the odd £1 really isn't that bad or the end of the world.
All of my items have free P&P unless they upgrade to 1st for 20p yet I have still received 2 1's for P&P so you just can't make everyone happy and you need to accept that and not take it out on other sellers.0 -
I wouldn't say it would be taking it out on other sellers but more so leaving low stars when it is deserved and in my opinion being over charged £1.51 deserves a low rating of 1 or 2. The seller has saved on extra final value fee's than if they charged the actual postage cost or free P&P and added the extra to the item cost.
As I have already stated, if the seller wants to cover packaging costs and trips to the PO then this should be included in the item price not the P&P cost.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
"My buyers have never complained about the P&P charges or left neutral or negative feedback so these buyers leaving low stars for my postage costs are the ones that need to gain some perspective."
The buyers marking you down are just the same as you suggesting this seller be marked down. You both need perspective!
"if the seller wants to cover packaging costs ... then this should be included in the item price not the P&P cost. "
Whether you like it or not it's P&P, packaging costs can be included by the very definition of the service. I'll agree shoe leather, bus fair and all that twaddle is the excuses of those knowingly over charging.
1/2 stars for 1.51 extra before packaging is very sad state of affairs which only builds animosity between sellers and buyers. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I personally hate this star system, it's not very constructive. I only sell when I'm having a clear out, so low value items mainly. Maybe send out half a dozen at the one time to save on costs and time of going to the PO, charge what the PO will charge me +/- 10p and still people mark you down on p&p. But the infuriating part is, it doesn't tell you who left the lower stars, so you can't address the issue by showing them how much you paid for the postage in the first place. If it was a bit more constructive them fair enough but as it is there's no come back for sellers other than to offer free P&P which isn't really viable for those of us just clearing out old clothes etc.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

My buyers have never complained to me or left comments in my feedback to state they are unhappy about P&P costs. I charge reasonable P&P. Either free, the actual cost or around 20p over so hardly anything to complain about.
The buyers leaving me low stars for P&P charges could be being malicious, knowing how damaging low stars can be. No one can see who the rating is off since it is annoymous so it doesnt stop buyers rating what they want even if it not deserved.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

Not deserved in your opinion, that's the point of stars to express an opinion. You say the seller shouldn't charge for packaging, perhaps your buyers think Royal Mail's prices are too high, in my opinion both wrong but as I said previously equally lacking perspective. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
