P&P grumble

Bought two items in auction, my bids win for less than they are worth (new items) seller combined p&p and charged me £3.99 (separately would have been £2.50 each p&p). Parcel comes today and label is £2.48 first class and in a mailing bag. I think this is a bit steep so email seller and say I am not happy but thank you for items and fast dispatch. This was the reply:sorry your not happy but the mailing sack cost £1.00,the items rrp is £5.99 and i sell this much cheaper than all the other people on ebay,i also do combined p&p when others don't,hope you understand

Now wonder am I being petty over a pound?

I'd probably do no more than maybe leave a 4* for postage rather than the 5* I usually leave as default. That's nowhere near as bad as some I've seen.

  • Yeah thanks, I know it's not a huge amount but it's just annoying, feel like sending a reply with a link to mailing bags in eBay, £1 each:eek:

I can see your point, being overcharged £1.51 on postage. It does seem a lot for a mailing bag but just think of the money you saved on the items you purchased and leave 3* for P&P charges.

Have you saved buying them from this seller than you would if you purchased them separate or both from a different seller?

I think your being petty. Although i would avoid sellers charging silly prices for postage, My main concern is the total price
delivered. How does the price compare to other sellers?

Just bought some car parts, 99p + £2.75 postage. Bought 2 and it only added 25p to the postage.

Better than paying £3.75 each with free postage.

Its the final price thats important to me. Could you have got it cheaper, How much postage would you charge to take
    something to the post office?

I would charge absolutely nothing at all to take an item to the post office, any seller that does wouldn't last long on ebay.

So the seller charges £3.99 (giving £1 off), the stamps were 2.48 and seller says the sack cost £1 (possible if they don't buy many not everyone can get dirt cheap packaging), you are happy with the items and quick dispatch but are worried over 50p knowing you got them cheaper than they are worth?

I wish I had to time to worry about things like this, if I got them for less than they are worth I wouldn't have even looked at the stamp.

    Yes.

    Next question?

  • Ha ha, ok I am being petty!

I know the mailing bag wouldn't have cost £1 plus, if the seller doesn't want to sell the items at a low price they don't have to! They sold on an auction rather than buy it now which is what the other items are on eBay. It just annoys me that they are making a tidy profit on postage, an extra pound of ten buyers is a £10 profit.....

You add the costs into the start price, Same thing really. If you didnt charge for time and costs then you will be posting in the bankruptcy boards soon.

OP said the listing they bought from was cheaper than all the others.

They showed the postage costs it still worked out cheaper than buying from someone with free delivery.

I dont see where the problem is, As long as they are not selling 99p items for 1p and £30 postage.

an what if every time he post's something he has an half hour round trip to the post office and used £1 - £2 maybe more of fuel. maybe even have to pay to park up if the only post office is in a busy town centre. Would you then expect him to have made a loss on selling you an item.
you know the price before you bought, if you was unhappy then why buy from him?
