Sympathies Kyle I hated it when DH worked shifts too, luckly not on them when DS was small. It was the only time we fell out, both too tired to be reasonable!Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
AW lil_me what a sweetie your little man sounds. Tell him he has LOTS & LOTS of Aunties who think he is a very special boy. Have a FANTASTIC time tomorrow and enjoy your baking.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Afternoon everybody :hello:
Had a very productive day today!
- Went into the box office at the English National Opera - I already had 2 free tickets (press) for tonight's show (The Marriage of Figaro) but have 2 friends instead of 1 who want to come with me, so I spoke to the box office manager and she let me add on the 3rd ticket for staff price (£18, the seat should have been about £75!) and moved us so the three tickets were all together :T
- Found a (much needed) sharpening steel for my knives in a cheapie shop, £2.99 :T
- Found a brand new recipe book for £2 in a charity shop
- Acquired a (much needed) filing cabinet, "freecycled" to me by my dad
- Collected my new bike from Halfords and cycled home
Off to the opera this evening so just preparing my early dinner of steak and oven chips (sirloin reduced to half price at Somerfield this morning) before I go.grannybroon wrote:Chicken legs reduced to 99p for a pack of 7 and there were two packs reduced. Hmmm, good buy I will have them I thought. Got to checkout and was only charged 99p for the 2 packs!!!!!!!!! Seemingly it was because they were £1.99 each or 2 for £3 and the original deduction came off too! How OS is that!!!!!!!!!!Used to be able to do it at Tesco and Sainsburys too but they seem to have got wise to it now and usually override it at the till
moggins well done on the good news
gingin and lil_me happy birthday to the kiddies
Penny-Pincher!! ((((hugs))))
Have a nice evening :wave:Operation Get in Shape

Moggins - my dad used to make really wonderful curried parsnip soup. I have never managed to get it quite right. Bearing in mind for when Lidls do half price veggies (have bag of parsnips in fridge today) - any tips? What is the best base stock? Ham or chicken? Do you put anything else in other than onions? I am probably going to get a row from BG as I should have gone to the mega index!
By the way I have a touch or two of gloss paint on my UPVC windows after the painting and other threads haven't been entirely helpful. I think tomorrow might try a wee bit of white spirit but do you think I should try microfibre cloth first? I don't want to damage windows.
Have a good evening peeps. I willllll be back!

I used to get bargains like that from Somerfields, no longer, like others they have got wise, must be 2 month since I got free/10p food :rotfl: Sainsburys clamped down a while ago, staff were the worst offenders for getting free shopping! Example loads of items which were bogof at £4.99, knocked down to £1, BOGOF knocked £4.99 off what you only paid £2 for, stick loads in with rest of shopping get lots of shopping for not a lot!
I remember my shopping came through at a negative number once and had to add a book of stamps, I had a trolley full :rotfl:
One day I might be more organised...........

I've never made it before but I used the recipe in Lindsey Bareham's "A Celebration of Soup" I used parsnips, onion, potato and fried that with some butter and a teaspoon of curry powder. Sweated it down for 10 minutes then added what seemed like a gallon of ham stock and simmered it till all the veggies were soft and then shoved it in the liquidiser. I think I could have used a little less curry powder as it is very spicy but still very yummy.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Evening everyone.
Well I've just managed to sleep 2 hours of the day away. I do feel loads better but I can't help feeling it was a complete waste of time. Not only did I not do my chores, but I missed "Sleeping Beauty" on ITV. Last week I kicked the kids off the TV just intime for the last 3 mins (exactly) of "Swan Lake". AAAGH.
This is quite a TV based post. Sorry.
Went to town today with DH to find a TV. Finally (and I mean finally, DH does have to look everywhere) we decided on one, and guess what, no where has it in stock. DH was fed up about it. I've just read the posts and you know what - watching a TV with no red in it isn't really a hardship, there are worse things in life. And getting it in 4 weeks means it'll be into march so easier to pay for.
Happy birthday little lil_me and little gingin.
Pen Pin - enjoy your day.
Moggins - know the feeling. Just enjoy your good fortune. Glad to hear it's happening to someone who deserves it for a change (and who appreciates it)
PenPen - Haven't been to a ceilidh for years. Dashing white sergeant and eightsome reel - go girl, Heeeeuuch!
Kids been at grans all last night and today - DH off to get them now. I missed the brats.
DH and I went to "wagamama" for lunch . Gorgeous. Not quite my diet, but everyone needs a break. Don't they?"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY little lil_me :j hope you had a great day0

Moggins - will let you know how soup goes! I think the liquidising goes a long way for flavour. Your recipe sounds gorgeous! Just boasted to DH about my chicken breasts - he is really impressed. I think I have won today! I have never been competitive until DH retired - things coming out of closet?
Will pop on later.
