I just wondered if there was a thread dedicated to cooking techniques? For example, how to pot roast, casserole, etc, with instructions from scratch for referral for someone with little or no cooking experience. I've had a look at the complete indexed collection and there are recipes but I've not yet found anything relating to cooking technique.

    Thanks in advance,

    K xx

Sorry I can't help Kitchen bunny.

A quick question if I may......... I have people coming round to eat this evening, and, as it is mostly teenagers, I am doing burgers, oven chips, sausages. I am cooking everything in the oven or grill, but what is the best way to keep them warm but not soggy or dried out? Feeding 9 so won't be able to put it all on 1 tray in the oven either.
Was planning to do the sausages and burgers under the grill, while the oven chips are in the oven.
Then do I put it on a low setting....... cover it with tinfoil? Leave it all open?

Sorry, I haven't tried it rosie383 but have you got a slow cooker? I've heard of people keeping baked potatoes, hot dogs etc hot by wrapping them in foil and putting them in on the low setting... not sure if they'd shrivel though... Hope that someone else can help you :)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Thanks I would never have thought of that. I will wrap the burgers and sausages in foil and pop them in there. Great idea!!!!

I recently saw a link to a video of an air hostess showing how to pack a suitcase for 10 days or so, but now I can't find it and I didn't save it (stupid me!). I'm not sure which thread it was on - either the grocery challeng or maybe here. I can't find it on YouT... Can anyone help?

Would it be this one? http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/05/06/business/businessspecial/20100506-pack-ss.html

    or this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH9j4OlybSo&feature=related

Hi Kitchenbunny - This might help. It's not a thread on this forum, but usually when I follow a Delia recipe, it works!

Yes! That's the one. Thank you :T I just found it astonishing how much she could pack in one small case. I tried her ideas last week and got so much more in my case, but I couldn't find the link when I got back. Thanks again.

I tend to use all her tips already, but I seem to have to take more 'bits' than either she or the chap were packing: I have a whole bag of electrical bits (plug adaptors, phone chargers, kindle chargers, and a two socket extension lead because there often aren't enough sockets!); a bag with all the vitamins, and DH always has 'real' books as well as his Kindle ...

Oh, and when I packed for all of us to go to NY, DS2 couldn't find his swimming trunks so had to buy a new pair. I knew I'd packed them, and I found them when packing to come home - stuffed inside his spare shoes with heaps of other underwear he'd not found!!! They'd taught him nothing when he was a Scout, he'd never thought to look inside his shoes ... :rotfl:

Have you thought of using Packing cubes or folders. (there are plenty on Amazon, but I made my own from adapted storage bags from the chinese shop) also Large freezer zip lock bags. I have been known to use a wash bag to keep all those electrical things together.

Oh I have bags: I have some which compress things, but if you're packing shoes, you need to stuff them with something, and if you don't think to tell the person you're packing for to look in their shoes, and they don't wear those shoes, they'll never find them! :rotfl: (I wore all the shoes / sandals I took to the USA, but I don't think anyone else wore anything other than what they wore to the airport! all boys, you see ...)

And I have a couple of bags to keep the electrical bits together, and bags for this, and bags for that. Problem is, they're mostly pink ... so while I know exactly WHICH pink bag has the normal phone chargers in, and which has the phone chargers for the car if we're hiring one, DH is completely lost! :rotfl:

What drives me nuts is when I ask DH to get his stuff together, and I roll and fold and stuff and get it all in nicely, and THEN he produces 16 carrier bags which he also wants to take: he insists on taking a box of Kleenex mansize wherever we go, for example, and a pile of reading material, and another pair of shoes, and ... and ... and ...
