do you know, it sounds fairly daft not to have much by way of carbs on footie days, not a nutritionist, but surely to goodness at an early lunchtime that would be OK?

I think I'd be tempted to look at some football training websites and see what they say.

Your meals sound fab, btw, can we all have some?

Ideas for work lunches that don't involve pasta, rice, noodles, cous cous or potatoes?

I send dinner with my husband to his work as he is out from 6am-8pm each day. My problem is that I am running out of ideas of what to feed him especially on the days when he plays football after work (2 or 3 days a week at the mo).
He won't eat things which 'lie heavy in his stomach' on footy days, so all the above things are out.
Please can anyone give me ideas of what I can give him? Today, for example, he has gone with tuna/ mayo/ sweetcorn mixture and ryvita which he has at about 11 each day.
Then I have given him grilled salmon with basil and parmesan crust and a salad for his tea. But I know that he will be really hungry and by the time he is in from football he will be sooooo hungry, but won't eat at that time (maybe 9.30-10pm).
So, what other things would be useful that will fill him up without bloating him? He may sound fussy (ahem, no comment) but it'll make my life easier if you guys can help me out with suggestions.

Would he take a flask of soup? You could make it quite chunky and put lentils, barley etc., to make it more filling.
What about a crustless quiche? You make the egg mixture just the same, and add any veggies you like, put into an oiled pyrex dish in the oven until it's set. Put a bit of grated cheese on top if you want. It will keep in the fridge a day or two, and you could serve with salad.
Baby gem lettuce broken into leaves make good 'holders' for tuna mayo, egg mayo, cheese savoury etc.
Hard boiled eggs with a chunk of ham. HTH :)
BTW - when does he eat carbs?

Just a quick question. Can you freeze eggs if you break them and put maybe 2 beaten eggs in a small Tupperware. I bought a few :o too many as they were reduced because they were near their BB date. I was going to bake, but ran out of time.

I have to say that I have never taken much notice of the BB date on eggs, beyond buying the longest 'life' that I can. And in many years of egg buying, I think I have only had one 'bad' egg that wasn't obviously damaged before I cracked it.

You can tell when an egg isn't as fresh as it was, because the air sac increases while the rest of it shrinks, but you're not going to be able to use an egg which has gone 'off' without knowing it.

Assuming you'll find time to bake within a month of their BB date, I wouldn't bother freezing (although I'm sure someone will find you chapter and verse should you still wish to do so!)

  • I need to make my car smell nice, but don't want to buy car air freshener, anything I can use old styley?

(It smells because of dampness and muddiness from rain and obviously I will need to hoover it....just want a quick fix).

    Thanks.

    Hi GraceJamesMum,

the sealed pot challenge for saving loose change over the year, I have an old coffee tin for mine with a slit in the top and all my spare change goes in here, it is sealed up with sticky tape to stop me from dipping in to it and I will count it at the end of the year I think it is usually the end of November everyone counts up what they have saved.

If you go on to the Debtfree wannabee board there is a thread near the top that lists all the different challenges.

Thanks for the suggestions re dinner for my dh on footy days. According to him he's ahem, 'not fussy and will eat anything'!!!! No comment.
He does eat carbs, he just finds that he can't eat anything heavy even early afternoon before he plays. Today he has gone, as per suggestion above, with a tortilla type crustless quiche thing with loads veg in it, and cheese, a decent salad, and some whoopsied foccacia. And his usual tuna stuff.
Tomorrow I'm erm assuming he doesn't have football, so I've made him sweet chilli prawns with edamame (sp?) beans (whoopsied) mixed through a moderate portion of rice, avocado salad and the rest of the foccacia. I'm doing my best!!

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

That is an interesting idea! I always seem to have a lot of change and it just disappears!
