For your future reference, if any other eejits ask the same question in the future, WD40 did the trick! Steeped it in nail varnish remover, hot soapy water, hot water with soda crystals (got the tube off minus the paint work which is still on me!!). Eventually managed it by spraying with the aforementioned WD40 and prising them apart. Now probably take me days to get rid of the thick layers of glue stuck to my fingers still. At least I got DD to make the dinner, so it wasn't all bad :-))

Nail varnish remover on its own usually does the trick. It's the acetone that does, I think.

    HELP - superglue on fingers...

Thanks Squeaky. The problem is that modern nail varnish removers don't seem to have as much acetone in compared to a few years back. It probably weakened the glue a wee bit, but nowhere near enough to prise them apart.

    Bummer!

    http://superglueremover.org/

It says that you have to read the label because some nail varnish removers don't have any acetone in them.

You are a mine of useful info Squeaks! Have to say, once I was eventually unstuck, I had a pleasant hour watching Masterchef while gently teasing the glue off my fingers! Think the nail varnish remover mustn't have had acetone, certainly didn't smell like it had.

Oh, after all that, the glue did manage to stick the school shoe sole back on! I can testify how strong the bloomin' stuff was, even though it was 10 tubes for 99p from Family Bargains, flippin' runny though!

The original stuff was very runny. Not unlike water. Later versions were made more gel-like to help it avoid running everywhere and sticking people's fingers together!

    heh heh :D

  • i have a big bag of carrots which need using up before I go on holiday on Monday. Normally I would turn them into soups for lunches, but I already have 8 portions of soup in freezer (which with the hol will take me up til April!), plus I don't have any other ingrediants to make soup in storecupboard right now.

So what would be the best way to prep and freeze the carrots for future use? Do I need to blanch them?

    Cheers

I chop them fine, then divide them into bags along with onions and celery, (one carrot, one onion and one stick of celery to each bag) then freeze them (in an airtight tub) ready to use as a base for bolognese, soup, etc. I don't bother blanching them. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to slice and freeze them without blanching first.

    Hello,

    I have 2 questions:

    1. We had a power cut last night about 3 hours after I put akilo of salmon in the freezer. The salmon was only about half frozen and I took it out of the freezer as soon as the power went off and took it to my MIL's house (about a 10 min drive). It's now in her freezer, but will it be safe to eat having been moved out of the freezer and transported at only about the half frozen satge?

    2. DH split the underarm seam on his waterproof jacket this morning. Can I just sew this up like any other seam? I have been looking online and have found specialist waterproof clothing repair companies, but they charge a fortune! It's only a few weeks old so don't want to muck it up and don't want to return it to the shop as it was bought on sale and they don't have any of the same style.

    Any help greatly appreciated :-)

Yes the salmon should be OK.

    And see: http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/hill-skills/how-to-repair-torn-waterproofs/6509.html

If that doesn't do it this google search should help.
