Thank You cards?

How many people keep thank you cards they receive? Mine are given a nice feeling when received then go straight in the bin.

After a good few weeks of displaying them, I keep nearly every card I've ever received from anyone who means something to me i.e. family and good friends. *soppy*

Is it bad that we are engaged 4 months and our engagement cards are still on display? We are still receiving them!

Wanchai - we got engaged in Feb and kept the engagement cards up until we got married in August, and then replaced them with the wedding cards!! Will take the wedding cards down before Christmas, and then live in a card-free zone from January!!

I think it's horrible that people don't send thank you cards - but I haven't got around to writing or making all of mine yet, 2.5 months down the line. All the day guests have them, and they've all been sent with official photos of them and their families - so hopefully that makes up for the delay!

I also keep all of the thank you cards I get, but only if they have a photo of the couple on, or have a really nice message. I've had hand written thank you notes on nice stationary - but with generic words so nothing special enough to keep. However, I'm sure some of my friends will only display the ones I send for a couple of weeks and then bin them!

I keep cards forever too. I can't ever quite bring myself to throw them out - it seems such an affront to a personal thing! Although I reserve the right to apply my own rules to this. I think most Christmas cards end up 'recycled' as they aren't really that personal.

Birthday cards etc are always kept. Good thing I don't have too many friends!

FWIW I aim to get our Thank You Cards (home made matching the rest of the stationery - already made) out after our 'reception' party and before we go off on our Honeymoon. (5 days). I personally think this is very do-able given (as I said above) I'm not at work and will have all day to write them.

As many people only get 28 days holiday per year including bank holidays a month off for a wedding is a luxury they can only dream off.


I do think some people overcomplicate things though. Until reading this forum I'd never even heard of chair covers.

I keep cards too although my OH thinks it strange. I just think someone went to the bother of choosing and sending it.

Chirstmas cards tend to be kept if close family and the rest are cut for tags or to mae my own cards and the remainder recycled.

I get 30 days' leave plus 12 bank holidays. I also work flexi hours so I can accrue leave that way as well. So 20 days' leave is very doable. And for teachers, it makes sense to get married in the summer hols.

If I may say so (politely), you are rather labouring the point re handmade/personalised cards. You think they're too complicated/too much effort - ok, we get it.

It wasn't you I was referring to as the teacher. Of course a teacher would get married in the holidays, when else!

I certainly don't think handmade cards are too much effort, I make all my own cards for Christmas actually.

If I've been to a wedding with chair covers I haven't been aware of them which is my point. People worry about all these details which in the scheme of things the guests are often not aware of.

Well, quite. We won't be having chair covers as they are not a priority for us and would cost an extra £300. :eek: Whereas the personalised cards etc are very much a priority. We want a very quirky, vintage style wedding and the cards (along with the rest of the stationery) will reflect our style.

i keep my thank you cards from wedding presents, i keep wedding invitations too. I feel really special when i am invited to a wedding so i like tokeep them.

Afriend of mine didnt send me a thank you for her wedding gift and it really changed my opinion of her. I thought it had been an oversight but when talking one night she advised me she just expected the presents so why did she need to say thank you, she had paid for our dinner after all! she is not my friend anymore
