it has happened to me a few times and l keep promising myself not to give wedding presents if l am unable to attend.lt is hard when you dont know in advance what the outcome will be if you do send a present. l do find it very annoying and very rude when l send a cheque by post for a newbirth or birthday and the cheque has been cashed and not a word from the recipient. l keep telling myself just send a card but then l feel mean
  • Hope you don't mind me jumping in - I'm new to this part of the forum...can usually be found on the freebies/grabbits board :)

My friends and I are huge fans of thank you cards - I currently have a coolection of them on my mantle piece for everything from a wedding gift to the loan of a dvd!
Not sned ing thank you's is just plain rude. They don't have to be expensive and don't take forever to write - they are a token that let your friends know you appreciate what you have done for them.

I think not bothering to ackowledge your gift is extremely rude, no matter how well you know the person whose wedding you went to - after all, they thought enough of you to invite you. I agree with mumof3plusoh, i have noticed a lot of people using photos from their wedding as part of the card which is a nice touch.

I actually find it very rude of people not to say thank you for a gift full stop, I still write thank you cards to people who are my parents age or older and make a point to text or email anyone (such as SIL etc) else who gives me a gift if I can't thank them in person at the time - an I'm in my 30's. I was always taught that if someone has taken the time to think of you, the least you can do is thank them - it's just good manners.

I am another one who would most definitely call and ask if the money was received. Cards can go missing and get mislaid and I for one would think this had happened if I did not receive a thank you.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

The thing is, both cards were put in wedding post boxes on the night, I know things can happen with them but generally people realise so I would have thought we have heard about it?

I am going to leave it until Xmas and then mention it to the closer friend...she is moving in the next few months and I'm not overly bothered if I offend her!;)

  • I went to a wedding in June and am yet to receive a thank you for the gift we sent.

Oh well if they have children then no gifts, only a card, will be sent.

I just received a thank you card the other day for a wedding we went to in May!!!! Better late than never though I suppose. We also went to one in June - no thank you card yet. I really hope we get one as I like the couple a lot and they would go down in my estimation if they didn't send one.

Our wedding is next July and I aim to have all the thank you cards sent by late September. Would that be ok?

As you say better late than never but personally speaking your time frame is rather long.

When I married I sent thank you cards as soon as the gifts came in so many were done before the wedding itself. The gifts that we got on the day got cards soon afterwards.

The wedding is in mid-July, we will be on honeymoon until mid-August and then I want to make our cards from wedding photos. So that's why it may take longer. Obviously if we get any gifts pre-wedding we will send a thank you note straight away, but we will send the photo cards to all our guests thanking them for sharing our day :) Hopefully we'll have them all sent sooner than late September but it will depend on the photographer and print timescale :)

I got married late November, 2 week honeymoon and back for a little bit then Christmas. By mid January people were itchy and we caught a few comments from family wondering about them.

General consensus was they were "late" but "done properly" and worth the wait. Like you we had to wait for wedding photos to get a card made, and we also had photobooth pictures printed off, and group photos from the wedding so it took a bit of organising, on top of writing them all out. I think once the card arrived people understood why they were "late".

In etiquette rules, you have 6 months to send a gift for a wedding, and to write the thank yous.
