Thank You cards?

I have never received a wedding thank you card so soon after the day I do start getting peeved after the 3-month mark though...

After six weeks I would have presumed I wasn't getting one actually! On any other occassion birthday or Christmas you wouldn't wait that long so why is a wedding any different?

In fairness, I wrote Christmas cards to everyone and didn't mention the wedding or gifts so I think they might have thought if I was going to send them it would have been then. I can understand people questioning whether or not they were going to get one.

Torry, for my birthday or Christmas I wouldn't have been so busy, and neither would I receive gifts from 40 different couples to write a thank you for!

Edit - I also had to wait for the professional photographer and our photobooth photographer to hand over the pictures to get everything set up. Then create a Vista Print order - which took 14 days to be made (or 28 if you take an even slower option). We also arranged 120 various prints via Photobox and had those delivered.

It was a fairly detailed process. I completely understand why people expected them sooner, but I wrote 3 paragraphs in each card - to thank them dearly for attending, to say we'd had a wonderful time, recalling a moment from the day we appreciated, thanking them for the gift, letting them know what we use it for/how well it suits our home.

Etc.

Torry Quine - we have been sending thank you cards for engagement gifts within a week of receiving them, but then these are 'off the shelf' thank you cards The wedding thank you cards will take longer because they will have to be designed and ordered, as MaggieBaking pointed out. I think that 2 months is pretty reasonable, especially if we're on honeymoon for half of that. We want ours to be made from our photos, they will involve a lot of thought and effort.

Me nor my parents have never got a thank you card from anything, apart from my cousins after their birthdays (when they were younger)... didn't realise it was so rude

Not to write a thank you letter for a wedding gift is disgustingly rude. I would seriously consider if I wanted to be friends with someone with such bad manners. When we got married there was one person who I thought hadn't bought us a present and one rogue present with no label. I very discreetly contacted her to ask if it was her. Turned out the rogue present was the vicar and her present had been ordered but hadn't arrived. It's highly unusual not to give a gift at a wedding so if the money had got lost, as that bride, I would be trying to place.

I think it's incredibly rude. We sent out thank you's within a month of the wedding. I had made the cards, wrote a lengthy note in each one and put a couple of 6x4 photo prints in each - everyone got a copy of the big group shot from the wedding and also a copy of a photo from the day of them (i.e. a group shot and then a picture of the person/couple taken by the pro photographer - some of her friends had really nice portraits in our photos).

Had about 45 cards to do so it took a little while but it's nothing compared with the time/expense for wedding guests. Not only gifts but many travelled from across the country to come and having all my friends there made the day so special.

I simply don't understand people who don't say thank you at all - even if it is just a text because they're busy.

I must say I am terrible normally at sending thank you cards. I do really always intend to, but time moves so quickly!!

However, for the wedding we ordered the Thank you cards from Vista Print before the wedding, and did them as soon as we go back from our honeymoon. They went out last week (we got married on 8 October). We had a honeymoon gift list, so for each of the gifts (like, dinner one night, or accommodation, or spotting an elephant) we put in an appropriate picture from the trip. We sorted the pictures and sent them straight to photbox for printing as soon as we got home.

It was all really down to my OH - my husband now I suppose! He also wasn't working last week, so he sat down and worked out who to write to, got all the addresses again and even wrote the vast majority of them. We sent cards to everyone who came, regardless of whether they gave a gift, plus anyone who gave a gift but couldn't attend for whatever reason.

We also did a quiz on the day of the wedding which due to time constraints we never gave the answer to. The quiz was all about us, sort of fun little things linked to our monopoly theme, so I completed all the answers with some details and people have said they really enjoyed that too.

It is a lot of work! And I will appreciate every thank you card I get from a wedding in future!

That sounds very personal and lovely.

I once received a thank you which had been typed up before hand and had no thought in it whatsoever.

It said x and y would like to thank you for your pan set.

I had previously said I 'might' buy a pan set, but then spent around 2 weeks before the wedding making a cross stitch of a perfect wedding recipe and framing it.

I have to say the thought that went into the typed thank you card wasn't well received.
