Thank You cards?

Why do people feel the need to have expensive personalised cards. I admit, they can be lovely if you have the time, energy and money but there is nothing wrong with a proper letter written on nice stationary. Cheap, cheerful and really rather classy.
I know they take longer and cost more than shop bought thank you cards, but to me (and others) they are worth it.Each to their own! Oh and everyone I know sends cards rather than letters as cards can be displayed. That's probably the only difference really.
I'm with you Pinkteapot. We did the same for our wedding. I sat down and did handwritten thank yous to everyone the day after we got back from honeymoon and enclosed personalised photos with each one. I think it's the height of rudeness to not write a thank you for a gift.
You had photos printed and in with your cards the day after your honeymoon? Wow.
BTW everyone, this thread is about people who don't bother sending thank you cards/letters AT ALL. It's not meant to be a competition to see who sent them soonest or who made most effort etc.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

As for your comment about a month-long honeymoon, what's that supposed to mean? Gosh indeed. Yes, we will have a month-long honeymoon but it won't be 5 star luxury - it's likely to be in India, which is a super cheap place to go! Therefore, it will cost less than fortnight in Europe, even with flights included. And why not have a month away? We will have saved hard to afford it and it will be fantastic.
I got the impression it was a nice "gosh"In fact, I think I had a similar mental response - it sounds lovely to have a month long honeymoon, regardless of how it's spent

Fair enough, maybe I was feeling a little defensive as the rest of TQ's post had been a bit 'off'. I didn't like being criticised for, on the one hand, having too long a timescale to send out cards and, on the other, going to too much bother and not just buying them off the shelf (!).

It wasn't a criticism but just wow that you will be able to spend a month just getting to know each other and relax. I'm also quite surprised that you've been able to get so long off from work.
Apologies if it came over negatively.MaggieBaking wrote: »I got the impression it was a nice "gosh"In fact, I think I had a similar mental response - it sounds lovely to have a month long honeymoon, regardless of how it's spent

Sorry again but as I said I would be upset if I waited that long for a thanks. It doesn't have to big either 'off the shelf or wait ages to get something personalised there's a lot in between.
That said I wish you ever success.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Same to you.
As I pointed out above, each to their own. I've never ever had a thank you card within a month of a wedding.
OTOH, a month-long honeymoon is quite common among my friends and family - one couple went on a 6-month backpacking honeymoon!! We love to travel and spend money on that rather than 'stuff', so we are carefully budgeting for our honeymoon. I'm happy to make sacrifices elsewhere for it.
Re time off work - yes, our employers are good to give us the time off, but they tend to be quite flexible with honeymoon leave as it's such a big deal for people and you only do it once.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

*Adds to the list: Chair Covers, Favours, Gift Lists, Children, Thank you Card* :rotfl:
FWIW I aim to get our Thank You Cards (home made matching the rest of the stationery - already made) out after our 'reception' party and before we go off on our Honeymoon. (5 days). I personally think this is very do-able given (as I said above) I'm not at work and will have all day to write them.0 -
How many people keep thank you cards they receive? Mine are given a nice feeling when received then go straight in the bin.0

That's where mine go too, infact most things go on the fridge
I'm not sure where I would put an actual letter. I'm just trying to think and I honestly can not remember the last time I recieved a letter.......other than a bill:rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
