I am so annoyed with him but he feels like he's done nothing wrong!

    he hasn't
Am i really so far detached from reality that this is acceptable for his English GCSE.

    Yes you are.
I am livid with him tbh.

    you shouldn't be
I find it totally wrong that he should even be thinking along those lines in the first place,

    he's a teenager
    I'm not a prude

    bollocks.

I will phone the school tomorrow and try and get a meeting with the English teacher and the head of English as i want to get to the bottom as to whether the teacher was commenting on what the other child had said or if it was the teachers idea and the other child was indeed reacting to that.

You're over reacting and causing a scene.

He told his dad that he said it to make everyone laugh and it made him feel big. I told him it made him look the total opposite to big - he'd made himself look really small. Its like he wants to be the class joker but its backfiring on him big time.

no, it's just you who didn't like it.
My husband is in agreement with me, he's also upset with what ds has put and the fact that he didnt get that it was inappropiate.

He gave your son a pat on the back when you weren't looking but he agreed with you because you're a prude and he still wants to get his leg over.
    Am i over re-acting?
    Or are we just dinosaurs?

    yes and yes

you remind me of my mum, she's bloody hard work as well :p

sorry but i think you have gone ott on this...

what if he gets a grade C will you still feel like that..

    He has used his imagination.

and sorry to burst the bubble but you son thinks about sex, a lot.. he's a male teen it's part of being a teen.

Sorry to sound so brutal but i think it is you and your husband that need to learn some modern facts of life

Don't worry about the science it was a mock, and he will have time to do better before the real thing

I'v read to the end, twice lol. I think boys are different to girls in their sense of humour at that age (girls being more mature ) and more likely to 'play to the gallery'. I would be surprised if it was the teacher's idea ( and would be careful how I approached asking!) but then teachers also can be a bit daft and it may just have slipped out. I'd be inclined to let son know I wasn't happy about it, that it was inappropriate but then let the matter drop and write it off as a silly bit of immaturity that he will grow out of.

sorry - I thought I understood the thread until the last few paragraphs?
Please correct me where I have misunderstood.
Your DS made a video of a class exercise, where they pleaded their case to be spared their lives (SCUSE ME? this is how English is taught now? )
Ok, your DS says the teacher told them they could say anything - even bad things. such as prostitute !!!!!! Star etc.
Your nephew doesnt recall that - but as they seem to have worked in groups - not ALL groups may have been told the same thing by the teacher.
you have viewed the video and are horrified because although your DS states he is a surgeon who could sculpt the body and save lives - he has a double life as a !!!!!! star!

    You are FURIOUS with DS!

Hmmm - I wouldnt be too pleased - but I think I wouldnt be to happy with the teaching either. The kids should have been given written guidelines dont you think?
working/discussing the topic in groups can lead to some groups having a wrong perspective or focussing on one aspect.
This may have been a throwaway remark by the teacher which gripped your DSs imagination.
and actually hun - It shows a really deep understanding of society by your DS! He is asking the others if a superficially 'respectable' person who had a dark side would be accepted by a primitive society if he revealed that dark side! but would the persons 'skills' over come that!
Wouldnt be surprised if your DS scored very highly here!
  • I think it's quite funny to be honest. He was obviously just trying to get a laugh from everyone. I think asking for a meeting with the teacher is a bit OTT, he was just using his imagination (he's a teenage boy so i'm willing to bet his imagination wanders into this zone quite frequently...) lol.

  • I'd be very glad that he's picked two professions which are very well paid. Perhaps you should be discussing his ambitions, if he'd like to be a Dr, he needs to concentrate a lot more in his lessons, especially science.

This may be your opportunity to have him realise that he can be anything he wants to be, and for most things he'll need to knuckle down.

I think you're overreacting massively. He's nearly 14 he sounds imaginative and funny - better than being a drip!!!
  • I think it's a sign of the times OP, certainly wouldn't have been acceptable when I was at school, but it's all different now. Kids are treated like mini-adults nowadays. The school probably won't even understand what you're annoyed about.

This is a bit OT, but I googled today for advice on why my home-made biscuits are turning out soggy and the some of the hits that came up were disgusting.
