  • This is a bit OT, but I googled today for advice on why my home-made biscuits are turning out soggy and the some of the hits that came up were disgusting.

Have you directly asked your son whether he knows what a !!!!!! king is? If so, how does he know? If my child was 13, I'd be very worried if he knew. Maybe a prawn ring from Iceland, coming up to Christmas.
I would want it erased from the recording.
  • That is amazing and I really hope he follows English through to University level and beyond!

I would have loved the chance to do anything like that for my GCSEs. All I can remember thinking is how much everything I had to study sucked.

When a kid has an imagination - any kind of imagination - you should never put them down or tell them their answer is wrong. I hope your reaction doesn't put the poor kid off the subject for the rest of his time at school.

oops lots of posts, I didnt expect that many this time of night.

I can see it from both sides but personally i feel that it the children should've been older (another year or so) for some of the comments.

As his mind wandering at times (fair enough) just not in the middle of an exam please!

I'm a secondary school teacher and whilst I'd never dream of suggesting that someone pretends to be a !!!!!! king for an oral exam (I can't even think of a situation where I would say the words "!!!!!! king" to my students tbh), I wouldn't go off the deep end about it either if a pupil did it in their oral. It shows imagination and a keen sense of humour. If they did it in my lesson, I'd play it down and i certainly wouldn't chastise them for it unless they were being crude/obscene.

I'd feel far more comfortable in the knowledge that the suggestion originated from your son rather than the teacher. Why don't you just call the teacher and ask the question - you don't have to do it as a complaint, just say that you're worried that the content of his oral will negatively impact on his mark and ask if the idea was his or not.

I'm sure the teacher will be more than happy to talk it through with you (I certainly would be).

It sounds like an inventive, funny, crowd-pleasing performance and you should be proud of him! I think you're getting unnecessarily het up about this - honestly, nobody is going to be shocked by a teenager knowing the word "!!!!!!" or think it reflects badly on his upbringing!

Well i did ask and he kind of knew - sort of like :rotfl:
I think you've just hit the nail on the head.
Guess i was so suprised as it was the last thing i was expecting to come out of him :o.

I know he is growing up - shame he dont show it the rest of the time.
We've been to dd's fireworks display at the school this evening and ds wanted a light up sword that 4-6 year olds were running around with.

Please don't embarrass the poor lad by contacting school about this, at his age the hormones will have kicked in and he will know exactly what he was talking about and by you going to school will make him look stupid in front of his friends big time.

Look for the positives in what he achieved and don't get upset that he knows what p0rn is. Him talking about being a p0rn king isn't a bad reflection on you, him or his upbringing, it's typical normal teenage behaviour (I did have a giggle actually, what an imagination, he'll go far in whatever he chooses as a career)
