He's not been watching Pawn Stars on tv has he? Y'know that one about the pawn shop in las vegas
p0rn star and hypnotherapist sound a bit odd together :rotfl:0 -
Well it's better than the parent who complained about me... kids had been writing playscripts of popular traditional tales, to act out and be videoed - one group had collaborated to do Jack and the Beanstalk, and had the line when mum found out he'd sold the cow for a handful of beans as "you stupid boy - I'd kill you if it wasn't illegal" (these were upper junior aged kids, not infants btw - the main objective was to write the playscripts set out correctly etc etc). For the group in question (not the sharpest bunch) it was actually an incredibly clever and witty piece of writing and since none of them were particularly enamoured of literacy lessons at the best of times - it was good to actually see them really engaged with something!
Head came to me, told me there'd been a complaint and used the words "yes, it's utterly ridiculous - but I'm passing it on to you because I have to really."
Teachers really "think badly" of very very very few parents - and they're generally ones who are behind much more spectacular things - like sending their kids to school dirty, unfed, smelling and with rotten teeth, or being abusive toward staff or with a history of "interesting" complaints (had one parent who worked to systematically try to hound a child with SEN out of the school because she viewed him as "stealing" her daughter's teaching time)... and not those with typical teenage lads trying to get a laugh out of the rest of the class!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

I defy any male over the age of 11 not to hear the word ORAL and not think of the P word at the same time. Especially to do it without sniggering as well.

I'm a 68 year old grandmother, with a grandson the same age as your lad - and yes, I agree with the other posters - you really are going OTT with it!
He is a child of the internet generation - even with all the parental controls that you will/should have on your computers - he and his friends will have found !!!!!! on t'internet and watched and sniggered over it ....I know my DGS was shown something when he was 10 (by a friend, who had been shown it by his older brother) and DGS showed it .....to the son of the family's local pastor  !!!!
Ironically, DGS's friend's father was the local bishop   :eek:0 -

If a child cannot be allowed to use their imagination in a class that is trying to encourage it, what hope is there?Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

Your DS made a video of a class exercise, where they pleaded their case to be spared their lives (SCUSE ME? this is how English is taught now? )
This may have been a throwaway remark by the teacher which gripped your DSs imagination.
I left secondary school around 20 years ago and recall doing activities like this in ethics class. The curriculum is much more holistic now and subjects tend to be more blended so in this instance anything that gets young people exploring language and presentation methods has got to be a good thing. Clearly the young people were engaged in the process and taking active ownership of their learning.
When I was at school the activity was more prescriptive and people were assigned roles/careers and had to justify their lives. There were race/gender/sexuality/class dilemmas involved that involved debate and analysis.
In the example the OP gave, my guess is that the teacher may have used !!!!!! king as a way to hook some of the pupils in, the same way as back in the day the 'cool' and 'respected' teachers would drop the odd swear word or personal anecdote about something into their class.
I hope this hasn't put your son off being creative in his education. There is no quicker way to turn young people off learning than to put up barriers and make it boring. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I was a support worker to a 13 yo lad in care who happily told us that he wanted to be a male prostitute when a bit older. When I asked him why, he said that he would be being paid to have s*x, whats not to like........When I pointed out that it's not gorgeous young girls that pay for s*x, he was amazed!! He thought that older/ ugly/ fat people just don't do it at all!! My point is at that age they know a bit about a lot, but not much at all about the details, so I shouldn't worry too much!0

Are you really going to go into the school and make a holy show of your own son? It's hard enough being a teenage lad!
Give him a break! If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0
