Right, I managed to make an actual decision (wow!) and have just plumped for AOL Silver broadband (signed up through Quidco of course!) Hopefully I should be online at home within 2 weeks - finger's crossed (at this stage I'm not sure whether I actually believe it will ever happen!)
Worked out today that I've got £6.60 per day until the end of the month, so am going to start up a mini spending diary to keep a track, starting with today... £3.22 so far, and hopefully no more (not going out tonight as have DVD to watch from LoveFilm)
I look at the figures & I *know* I should be able to do this easily as I've got plenty of diesel in the car & food in the cupboards & freezer, and I am determined to be good and not fritter it away! I've made a little book out of scrap paper (very DFW!) and will endeavour to write down absolutely everything I buy until the end of the month (never been very good with spending diaries to be honest!)Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Are you rummaging through pockets looking for that 13p?
Sofas, handbags (yours or other peoples) and old coats should produce sufficient to take you below that £4000!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I know I've got more than 13p lying around the house in my change jars, but because I'm going on the amount in the bank account/on the credit cards I'm not 'officially' below the £4K mark yet!
Might go get some change bags tomorrow morning though & see what I can rustle up!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

OK, just been updating my sig with the balance transfers I've been doing, and unfortunately it's made my total go up again because of the 2.5% fee on transferring some to Egg for 0%
However, I worked out that the fee is about equivalent to just 2 months interest on the HSBC one, so it will be better in the long run...
I'm getting a bit frustrated with money I'm owed not arriving - if only my IR cheque, NTL/Virgin, cashback from utility switching would turn up I'd be soooo happy cos together they would completely knock the OD on the head!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Cheap date ideas?
A walk in the park (there's lots in Pompey), Picnic/ Trip to the New Forest, Drive to Somerset, Hire bikes & ride them at Langstone Harbour. Thanks Racer, I'm hoping that the weather improves so we could go for a walk along the beach or something, then maybe stop for a coffee, but still horrible down here.
I may well pick your brains about Scotland though, as my summer holiday this year is planned to be grab a tent & backpack & walk around Scotland for 2 weeks. I've only ever been to Glasgow & Edinburgh before, so I'm hoping to try and get up to the Highlands, but keep reading stuff about bothies - what are they?Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

OMG!!!
I've just found my PERFECT job - I've just got to apply for it! I fit the person spec completely, it's in a field I really want to get into, and it pays £9K more a year than I'm currently one!!! My very basic calculations work that out as £435 take home a month more - I'd be debt-free in no time at all!
Only downside is that the interviews will be held on the day I'm supposed to be going to the Isle of Wight festival on the 9am ferry, so I'd have to buy a later ferry ticket (typical!) but methinks the additional expense would be worth it...Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

If the job is perfect, then nothing will stop you applying for it.
Festivals will happen again, perfect jobs don't come along that often.
Good luck, go for it xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I'll still have to get to the festival somehow as it's a friend's hen weekend, as well as yearly festival outing! At least I live in Pompey, so getting to the ferry/cat etc will be easy enough - just got to hope there's space left!
Other slight difficulty is that it's an online application form only - and I've still not got internet at home - I think i'm going to have to invite myself round a friend's house to actually complete the application!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06
