Thing is you cant buy unbranded / no name memory sticks only lexar, sandisk and sony seem to be able to make them.. Dont think i've ever seen a kingston memory stick.

Also if you consider buying a fake stick as lets say for example sake it lasts a year, by that time the genuine article will have dropped to a price which might be more reasonable.

Talking about how they would only buy a real Prada bag. Come on! Some of us don't have the money you know. If you can get it cheap, legally and it does the job what's the problem? I thought this site was about money saving!!

Some of us don't have money as you say, so why should we pay £12 every six months or so for cards that will eventually break and have no warranty? Genuine cards are covered by manufacturers.
You are basically buying through dodgy transactions from dodgy sellers for a product that is itself illegal.
I think you'll find that you are the one who's stuck up.

Sorry disagree. If I buy a fake 2Gb card now for £10.50 (as I did) and it lasts a year, in a year's time a real card will have fallen in price from £45 to £25. Therefore I will have had my fake and then my real card for a total cost of £35.50 and I am still better off than I had a bought a real one today for £45. Of course, my fake card may not break either - lets face it given that there are no moving parts it is a reasonable assumption that it won't break. The guys selling the fakes don't get eBay feedbacks of 22,000 because they are selling complete junk!

I bought my fake on Ebay about a year ago and it still seems to work fine. I was a little annoyed though because I paid £40 for it which was the going rate back then. Turns out you can buy about 50 of them for $100 in China. Then selling them on at £40 a pop. Thats daylight robbery!!

I think people are missing the point. Ebay and Amazon operate on the basis of trust. If a seller with positive feedback is offering a product that they claim to be "Sony" or whatever, then a consumer has every right to believe that they will be buying that product.
If it turns out that the product is fake, it should be Ebay and Amazon that are held responsible and the consumer should be regarded as the victim. On here (where everyone is looking for a bargain!) posters should not be condemned just because they have been naive.
How long can big business continue to ignore the facts? Fakes have been rife on ebay for years and now Amazon seem to be gaining a bad reputation through its marketplace sellers programme.
Perhaps the answer (for MSE) is to identify posts that could be promoting fake goods early and for the mods to close the thread?

I beg your pardon???!!! If you cannot afford a real Prada bag, don't break the law by buying a fake, buy a well made non named bag which you won't have to replace in 6 months when it falls apart due to poor workmanship!

How dare you! And if you think buying a faked memory card is legal and 'does the job' then you are very, very wrong! Some people shouldn't be allowed a keyboard!
