I just bought myself a new sony ericsson w810i and being a lover of music i wanted a bigger memory card. I then stumbled across this gem of a bargain on amazon finding many of these cards as cheap as £12, YES £12. I have seen online shops selling this particular card in excess of £120.

This IS the official sony high speed card and is compatabile with sony PSP, many different mobiles and cameras.

I agree. Misleading as there is no guarantee these are genuine, especially at that price.
  • I bought a 1Gb Sandisk Extreme III SD card from Amazon Marketplace just before Xmas. It was a very good fake, came in a very convincing box, had the little neoprene bag, recovery software etc. It just didn't look quite right, I found this page, no doubt there are more like it. Ebay themself are aware of the problem here and here.

I started a row, Amazon refunded my money and I refused to send the card back, I sent it to Sandisk along with the vendors ID. Amazon then kindly sold me a genuine card for a similar price.

Of course it's great that your 4 fake cards work but what about those fake ones that stop working after a while? Can you guarantee everyone who's buying that the ones on amazon marketplace will work?

I too have bought fake cards on ebay but I wouldn't recommend other people doing the same if they will be storing important things like photos on them and suddenly the cards die on them, how do you think they will feel?

At £12 these are very likely to be fake. So I'd recommend it only for those who can afford to take the risk of losing the data they will be storing on them.

I don't think Sony offer a 100% unequivocal "You will not lose data on our memory cards" guarantee do they. Using any form of memory card always carries the risk of data corruption or loss. With a fake you end up with nothing, with a manufacturer you get a replacement card, you lose the data either way.

The difference in cost is your attitude to risk and whether over time you'd be happier buying 3-4 fakes or 1 genuine card. But, given the advances in the cards over the last few years, i.e. 12 months ago a genuine 2GB was close to £90, a fake £40. Now we're already up to 4GB at similar prices, maybe sometimes paying a lower cost for technology that is likely to be superceded substantially in the next 12 months is a reasonable choice for some.
  • Well, i got one just out of idle curiosity (and to learn how good these fakes can look), and it's quite a good looking fake from just looking at the packaging. I checked the 'how to spot' guide, and saw that a couple of bits on there have been changed on the fake to match the picture (the notches on the casing). Another thing - on the back it says 'mowing' as opposed to 'moving'. There are also a couple of other errors that i don't think sony would make.

I'm not even going to bother opening and using it, as I doubt it'll be of much use.

Well im sorry for not finding a bargain to your standards. Ive got many bargians / freebies off this site and thought id post back one of my finds into the comunity. Obviously i am not as '' Internet experienced '' as some of you and im not trying to mislead anybody.. and as for pre-reg if you study the concept of amazon you will find the items arent sold by one person so im not endorsing / promoting any item at all.... you PLUM!!!!:doh::doh:
