ajmoney - it sounds like you will be thinking long and hard about the new purchase, treat yourself - you deserve it. You sound like me - it's nice to have a few really nice things here and there that will last forever rather than a load of stuff that never gets used and quickly falls to bits or goes out of fashion. In all seriousness - a nice Barbour will be a nice investment piece and will last you for years.

    Busy/fun day.....

Ordered a few more Christmas presents, I'm obsessed with changing everyone yellow on my spreadsheet (change to yellow when present's are purchased for said person). Even managed to do one of them through Quidco so that I can a few pounds cash back!

Popped to school to look at homework. There is no way that some of the homework has been done by children. I'd struggle to do some of what i saw today myself, let alone an 8 year old child.

Got myself all ready for the family pictures at school and packed some nice "complimenting" clothes for the boys - seems I had the wrong day, so I made an effort and put my lippy on for no reason.....

Grrrrr, I didn't have the wrong day at all. DH just couldn't be bothered and so he talked me into thinking I had the wrong day when we met on the playground. I just found the letter confirming it was today. So, no family picture again this year.

Ok, I've decided I'm really serious now about setting myself a little personal challenge. I'm destined to fail miserably (yes, I know, wrong attitude) but I'm gong to out it down in writing anyway and give it my best shot.

I am not going to buy myself anything for the rest of the year. There I said it.

I may have said it last week aswell but I was weak.... Although, to be fair, I only ordered something and I did cancel the order, so I guess that doesn't count.

Ok, so not only am I not going to buy myself anything, I will also not order something and then subsequently cancel it .......

I'm going to keep reading all of my subscribed diaries every day to try and keep myself on track. So, I'm relying on you lot to keep me on the straight and narrow!

Hi LB, I am laughing here - how are you going to resist the pre Christmas sales :rotfl:

How about a wish list and then if you see something on your list, which will save you money if buying in a sale, rather than buying normal price, then go for it - would that approach help?

    Good luck though, Tilly x

  • I can't believe you have a Christmas present spreadsheet... that's a spreadsheet too far!

Tilly - I'm already struggling, hence why I need to make the pledge!

Mrn - I just have a list of the people I need to buy for, I then add the amount I would usually spend next to the name - I used this so that I could see the total cost in order to work out how much I needed to put aside each month to cover the cost. As and when I have ideas about what I could get for someone, I add it to the spreadsheet so that I'm not stuck a month before racking my brains about what to buy. And then, once the present is bought, I just make a note of what they are having and then highlight! I need to make a note of who is having what so that I don't get confused when it's time to wrap. Bearing in mind that I bought a lot of my gifts in the jan sales, it's a long time to remember which present is for who - hence my need for a spreadsheet. In fairness a piece of paper would do, but I use spreadsheets for everything.

The last thing I bought for myself was last Monday - I bought some vests, socks and a long sleeve tshirt and spent £24.50. So, I've been good for 9 days.........

Actually 8 - 1 long sleeve top, 3 vests and the pack of socks contains 4 pairs........
  • Sorry, but Im with you. I love spreadsheets. Think you may have slightly gone just a teeny tiny incy wincey step to far making them change colour but who am I to judge, I did exactly the same when we did both extensions.
