I use spreadsheets as easy to sort lists all the time. Jobs to do, presents to buy, menu plan, all could easily be done on paper but I like doing a strikethrough when they are completed
I also love conditional formatting on my 'proper' spreadsheets so the cells change colour. Usually to red, but hey ho :rotfl:. I'd like really clever person to tell me how to get a cell to change colour automatically if it tipped below (or above) the next thousand

Well thank goodness I'm not the only person who tends to use excel spreadsheets for lists etc - I always thought that it just seemed like common sense quite honestly. And clicking to change colour, to me, is just like crossing through a handwritten list - to identify that it's been done!
Anywhoo, sadly, I'm just quite basic with my excel use, so I'm not sure how you would get things to change colour automatically gallygirl... if you find out, let me know!!0 -
Cupcake making fest is complete - lots of lovely looking cupcakes ready for my little ones Halloween party at nursery later today.
I've saved 2 cakes, some icing and toppers so that DS1 and Ds2 can make themselves one each when DS1 gets back from school. I figured this would make me feel less guilty about making the rest of them without their "help". I daren't even work out how much it has cost to make all of these cakes! definitely not very MS thats for sure.0 -

Isn't this quite straightforward?
I've fiddled about with Excel 2003 and it can be done as follows:
Consider an OP tracking spreadsheet. There's a series of months and a value for each month to show how big an OP was made in that month. So something like:
Jan £1000
Feb £x
Mar £x
You can't conditionally format Jan as you don't really have anything to compare it to, but Feb onwards works ok.
You also need to decide how much you want to OP by. Say you're lucky and you have £1000 a month to spare.- Select the cell for Feb's value
- Left click on the Format menu
- Left click on 'Conditional Formatting'
- For condition 1 (success), your formatting would be 'is greater than or equal to / cell containing Jan's OP / +1000, then click 'Format' and select fill green
- For condition 2 (failure), your formatting would be 'is less than / cell containing Jan's OP / +1000, then click 'Format' and select fill red
You can adjust the numbers as required and you could have a RAG (red/amber/green) to show levels of success (i.e. red = less than £500, amber = £500-1000 and green = £1000+0 -
This all sounds very clever ed, I'm just a simplistic excel girl though so it scares me!0

Back from the halloween party, kids had fun and the cakes went down a treat!
Time for a lovely warm bath and then jammies, feet up and a cheeky fruity flavoured cider. Happy days.0 -
ah...baths followed by jammies are just the best:D And guess what (I forgot to put in my own diary, so am telling you)....I bought a little Christmas present today!!!! My first one, but now I've broken the 'Christmas Seal'* let the present buying commence:D:D:D
*in case you're wondering what this is, I can explainFebruary13 - £74990 (or thereabouts)
MND - Let's go for 2020 'cos it's got a nice ring to it:D

Ah, but I OP every day(ish). What I am looking for is for the conditional formatting to cut in when the balance changes from 122,001 to 121,999, but not when it changes from 121,999 to 121,001.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Natty, do share - what is the Christmas Seal? Xx0
-
It's similar to the bladder seal...once broken (when you've been drinking) you just can't stop 'going'. So now I've broken my 'Christmas Seal' the shopping flood-gates have been opened.
