Recommended car hire in Alicante, Spain

RentAgain.com were very good, as have Centauro been. Both however charge you for a tank of fuel, so not really worth it if you're going for under a week. If you're going for less than a week, try Atesa, a very reliable Spanish firm with a desk.
my favourite was RentAgain, because they met you in arrivals with your name on a board, so you didn't queue at a desk, and they were pretty cheap.0 -
I'm currently using easy options good price don't charge for fuel and pick you up in arrivals they have web site0

I used Sol Mar a few months back. They're not in the terminal but they are nearby and the shuttle bus didn't take too long.
After I had booked I was getting a bit nervous as the web was full of bad reviews about them saying the cars were quite old and unroadworthy, but they gave me a VW Golf with only 37000 KM on it so I was pretty pleased with that.
Also unlike a lot of Spanish rental firms, they didn't charge upfront for the tank of full. They provided a full tank and asked that we brought it back full.0 -
We have used this company before http://www.hts.com.es/ both for airport transfers and taxis. I'm not linked to them in any way but my family probably uses them about half a dozen times per year. They're run by a British family and have always been great for us and much cheaper/ straightforward/ more reliable than any of the other companies we'd used before (had tried Hertz, solmar, goldcar etc but got sick of the petrol costs and excess)0

you get what you pay for, I normally use Sixt, prices they quote seem more expensive but its a full to full policy. They don't try and force excess insurance on you either. (though I have an excess policy). Never more than two people in the queue usually
Thanks very much for sharing this info as I am trying to book car hire from Alicante airport too.
Would you mind sharing details of the company you have your excess insurance with too please?
Do you know whether Sixt ring fence £600 excess on your credit card if you don't take out their excess insurance?
Do you know if the Sixt desk is open 24/7? We are arriving in Alicante on a Sunday afternoon and flying back to the UK late at night on a Sunday (check in around 9.30 pm). Will there be someone there to receive the car? One of the other companies someone recommended state that if they're not open you have to drop the keys off but I'd be terrified that of we did that then after we'd flown back to the UK they could say that there was damage to the car and we'd not be able to do anything to prove it wasn't.
Any further info very gratefully received.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

The person we are renting our apartment from has said she has heard caronlinerentacar.com are a good company in the Alicante area, although she hasn't used them herself. I've searched online but can't find any reviews. Has anyone here used them?“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

I use the UK-based broker carhire3000.com as they scan (and often get cheaper deals from) major iperators, but given the dangers of fuel rip offs, they spell out full-full (best), or full out-empty back (silly) on the 1st search results page.
They've never let me down over 20 rentals in Italy or Spain, and the only time I used another operator (at Malaga) I hd to Q for hours, got hassled on the excess insurance (we have a cheap annual multi trip excess protection policy but they didn't like to let it rest at that and were very threatening) and we got tricked on the fuel.0 -
We use https://www.icarhireinsurance.com for excess cover.0
