Are you putting times in that are for exactly 2 weeks?

ie sat pick up 3pm return sat 3pm?

6 days 22h will be charged at daily rates, 7 days 0h will be charged at weekly rates?

Yeah I was doing pick up and drop off same time.

Have finally booked through rentalcars(who I have used before and been happy with) for a Peugot 206(or similar) pickupfull returnfull for 2 weeks for £389 with an extra driver free.

The car company they said will be Atessa so at least I've avoided Goldcar.

Do a search with https://www.carrentals.co.uk and http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/cheap-car-hire/uk/ and see what results you get.

If it's too cheap then double check the small print, if it's full/empty fuel and unclear insurances then avoid.

Don't book until you know who the actual car hire people will be so you can check them.

  • Just returned from holiday through Alicante with car hire with Centauro with no problems at all - booked through AutoEurope.

No pressure tactics at reservations desk although fair to say the wait for collection on arrival was considerable - only beaten by the mamoth Goldcar queue!

Price I got was competitive although would have paid the extra £10 and use Budget to avoid the queue.

Having said that Centauro were very organised & friendly - no problems at all.

wanted to update this in case anyone was interested, we hired a car from a local company in the area in the end called Easyoption car hire.

We was met straight after baggage claim and taken to our hire car, where all the paperwork was done. It was done with you take the car back with what was in there at the time, so a quarter of a tank.

We had a nail in the tyre whilst in spain and it was sorted within an hour an a half, and we have been told it won't cost us anything
( will update if that changes)

The drop off was a bit strange as we had to lock the car and then put the keys in a slightly open window, and you must drop the car in the outside perimeter of the airport carpark only on one floor, you must do this within half hour of the time that you give them or they will charge extra for parking.

Overall a good experience with no waiting at the airport and no pushy extras, though we have only been back 2 days so hopefully nothing changes, will be back if it does.
  • I'd second Centauro. Good company with fair prices.
  • Help can anyone recommend a good car hire company at Alicante airport - very confused by these stories of excess car hire insurance and paying for full tanks of fuel at high prices ... if anyone can clarify and suggest a car-hire firm they've used who were good would be v grateful

you get what you pay for, I normally use Sixt, prices they quote seem more expensive but its a full to full policy. They don't try and force excess insurance on you either. (though I have an excess policy). Never more than two people in the queue usually
