• Hiya we should start an Excel appreciation society........

I couldn't keep up with the posts today as work has been a little insane. Sadly a spreadsheet won't solve some of the challenges I am facing..

I think all workbooks start off just tracking one or two things and gradually they evolve to solve problems/views you need. I have one simple worksheet which covers my incoming and outgoings by month for the year. This allows me to identify months when I have 'spare' cash and others when things may be a little tight.

In addition I track my daily spends which I pivot to show my spending trends by category. This helps me to keep on top of where the Tilly household is day by day.

Off to check the posts now

    Have a great weekendTillyxx
I don't know about you but I think it's been far too long since we had some corporate speak to look down our noses at on here so how about this one, after a hard month of deep diving, snorkelling, four eyes checks and mining the intelligence it's time for an oxygen check. What do you think of that all, does it pass muster :j
Hiya ATT, I can safely say the last four weeks have been the most hectic I have experienced on my whole career - so I guess that's an indication of where my brain is.......

Now on the business speak, you are really failing if you aren't utilising your Data Warehouse to mine for collateral to assist ongoing profit optimisation......... Shall we talk about protocols now.......

I think this week I needed oxygen let alone oxygen checks...... I still can't get past glide paths and we should make more of an effort to keep each other in the loop on OP progress:rotfl::rotfl:

There will come a day when we can put this all behind us and I can focus in my veg growing and what will you be focussing on? Will you need any control groups to enable the benefits to be analysed:T

Have a fab weekend and glad that your manic month has come to an end.

On the weight loss front it's quite good isn't it? I do think it's all part of the transformation since joining here last November.

I need to learn how to do proper quotes.....
    Best wishes Tilly x

Ah yes. What fun that will be :D. Spreadsheet for costs & profit (hmmmm......... best take avergae price of carrots across a couple of supermarkets to be on the safe side). Beetles/slugs accidentally consumed by eating straight away without washing  Yield. Yield by variety. Calories burnt. Hours spent gardening. Profit per hour. Yes, I can see a lot of opportunities :rotfl:

I need to learn how to do proper quotes.....

To quote one post just press the quote button.

If you only want to quote part of it you can delete what you don't want as long as you leave the opening and closing brackets (
    and [/ QUOTE]).

To break a quote up so you can comment on different parts, as I have done, just copy and paste the
and [/ QUOTE] to the start and end of what you want.

In the unlikely event there is more than one post with anything other than utter drivel in it ;) and you want to respond to more than one post in one answer, press the button that looks like speech bubbles - a white tick will appear to show you have selected it. Then press the quote button and edit as above.

    Hope this helps :)

PS I don't like pivot tables. I don't trust them. Smug little things. Well up their own *rses. Give me filters and autosums every time. I understand them :D.

  • Morning GG, I think part of the quote confusion is that I use my iPad often for postings which doesn't have the same functionality, so that may explain my lack of skill.

Ooohh, now I haven't used spreadsheets for tracking volume of veg produce. Thanks for the idea  I really have to get out more.

Embrace the joy of pivots :T

Have a great day. DD has just come to ask if I am ready for a run!

 We power walked to town last night :T. Then had an Italian meal with 2 large glasses of wine, plus olives & bread. Walked home (slower :o) via another large glass of wine in pub and large bag of mini eggs so more than outdid all the good of the walk :o. Legs v sore this morning, so I don't envy you

My spreadsheet is on filters and autosums diet only:D. Otherwise I spend hours looking onto my pretty graphs and analyze things while I could actually be earning some money in that time:D

Morning all, let me start by telling you of my coupon shopping trip to Tesc@ last night with DS.

Armed with SSMC coupons, a list of the items I wanted to buy, off we went. Managed to secure BOGOF on DW tabs, plus pick up all on the list. Get to check out, offered the SA vouchers up front, in case that made life easier, or offered to give the appropriate one as the item went through, but she said do all at the end.

DS got stuck into the packing. SA tried to put them through, questions whether I have bought the items (there only 2 bags so not hard to remember). She tells me that the ones which didn't scan cant be used. No I said, I have bought the right items and have the right coupons. A little huffing from her, along with the wee queue forming....... A supervisor then pitches up with the same rigmarole, you haven't bought the items, you have bought too many etc etc. My response was check the receipt or I can just unpack, it won't take a moment. So funny, she started manually entering them. As the guy next to me was getting quite frustrated, I said to the SA, if Teac@ join forces with SS they should not be surprised when their customers use the vouchers. When the total bill came in, I had spent £22 and saved £12. £12 saving worth the effort, I said! The guy then leant forward and asked me where I got them from!

This was an interesting lesson for DS as well. We both felt a little embarrassed and had that, this has gone on too long feeling, but stuck to our guns........he had a free bar of choc from Cadbury so he was happy.

So my shopping total was £22 plus £16 spent on fruit, veg and milk in Lid@. The shopping last night will reduce my weekly shopping bills as it was all cleaning type stuff so I am not counting at against my weekly grocery spend.

    Not a bad evening.

We went for a jog with the dog as a family - all loved it and it is really getting easier. Having dropped 19lbs now this year, the main reeason i think is exercise. Slightly smaller portions also :)

I am just going to get the ironing done, then off to volunteer for a couple of hours and back to pressure watch the patios. I will ask the kids to plant some more onions and potatoes, along with more salad leaves.

I do feel like we are on a roll, and LOVE waking up to the light - makes a huge difference to how we all feel. Plus the sun is streaming through the windows right now - glorious.

On the cooking front, I made Mondays dinner yesterday and that's safely in the fridge. I have to take soup out of the freezer for lunch and then it will be turkey for supper.

One thing I have forgotten to do at the end of February was print off the freezer list, so I am having to hunt for things which I find frustrating. Anyway, no time for a freezer sort, it will have to wait until the end of the month when I start planning for April. Lovely bank holidays coming up and very much looking forward to those.

Have a great day all, Tilly x

I hate when that happens! If I'm on my own, I'll stand there till it's sorted, if I'm with my OH than he always says to forget it (he works long hours and we don't spend much time together, in his defense).

But what annoys me even more is when there is an half price /BOGOF offer and than at the till it doesn't register or they didn't specify in a big advert it's only the specific flavor that qualifies!

Good job you got your savings at the end - £12 is well worth the 5 min commotion:D

  • Hi, failed on the patio washing. Weather was so glorious we had lunch outside instead :)

Bike ride with the kids was great and that feeling of freedom never goes away. Love it.

So patio cleaning pushed to next weekend if the weather is OK.

  • Evening, well another weekend draws to a close. The weather has been so beautiful and we now have more lettuce sown and onion sets planted.

More OPs to be done this week, but in line with DHs wishes, I am not tracking them in my signature. So next formal update will be June 2012.

Given the busy social week coming up Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday meals are prepared, with one of them being put in the freezer.

I really like the discipline I have learnt from this site and the tips people post do help to keep us focussed :)

Have spent a little time talking abut vacations with the kids today but with big exams this year it's going to prove more difficult. I thought we had decided one thing, but realise that this won't work now, due to another activity they both need to fit in. I will have to find some quiet time to talk it through with DH. Life seems to get more complicated as they grow up but I also recognise that the next few years will go quickly so don't want to waste them.

Have a great week and in a blink it will be Friday - rolls round quickly:)
