Money - today will be a spend day. I am hoping to finish Xmas shopping :rotfl: I may even wrap them up and store, where I can find them

I've not bought a thing! I should probably get started. I'm too busy looking at decorations and 'elf on a shelf' products than gifts!June 2024 - part 1 - £28,832 part 2 - £24,400 Total - £53,233 41 months to go!0 -
Morning Lulabelle, I think my ability to cook vanished for one night  I truly made the most awful meal - we'll draw a line under that one.
Tonight it's Rib Eye steak (L!dl), jacket potato and salad (no leaves). Looking forward to that
Cath, I didn't manage to wrap, but I am pretty much done now. I have one gift to buy on line, which is a photo album book for mum. She will be moving back in during November, but staying with other family for Christmas.
The first Sunday in Advent is important to us, and the magic which is created at Christmas is really special (ok I am an old romantic). However, I find the madness, rudeness and the commercialisation overwhelming hence I like to shop way ahead. Once I'm done. I can pretty much ignore the shops.
With younger kids though, I can definitely understand why 'elf on a shelf' stuff is important

Hi Tilly ... just had a quick coffee and catch up with you!
Glad you're all well and good ... a few parallels here as h/m blueberry muffins have been on the menu here too and still plenty on the bush so maybe more over the weekend!
I've always cried at some point in every Toy Story (sad but true) and even now, a year after my youngest left home! They're always your kids, even as adults. I hope DD has a great time at uni.
Totally agree about food prices and the cost saving potential of growing your own. We've managed to save quite a bit just by eating fresh veg from the garden rather than buying veg each week. Ok, so it's a bit repetitive when there's a glut, but with a bit of imagination (which I know you and Greying have when it comes to food * to Greying*) it's possible to eat well and healthy without spending too much. I do realise we're very lucky to have the garden to do it in though and really feel for those who want do but can't. Blessing firmly counted here.
Impressed with your slow cooker busy-ness, sounds like you're well stocked for the coming season!
(Hugs for a happy weekend) x

Hi Tilly...do remind DD to use the SC for soup. I often forget and actually it's amazing to come in for a lunch of warm soup. And with some bread it's cheap and pretty healthy.
Glad you're back on track. Couldn't believe it when you described your cooking as below parsurely you're being too hard on yourself....:)

Oooh, I've never done soup in the slow cooker. Do you just bung all the veggies in chopped up and then whizz it all up with a blender afterwards?0 -
Hey Tilly:wave:

Back atcha sweetie
Erm, I know you were all talking about soup in the slow cooker (I don't have one of those) but, purely co-incidently, the recipe that I made for dinner tonight, from Leanne Brown's 'From Scratch' (Green & white Chilli, pg 75), can be made in a slow cooker. Leanne gives instructions at the end of the recipe. I think that the recipe was actually quite good - I've never had chilli that didn't have tomato in it before - so perhaps worth bearing in mind?
By the way - thank you for the prompt. When I read the recipe the other week, I thought I must point out that it can be made in a SC on MSE. I'd forgotten by today, but your posts reminded me! THANK YOU

boultdj - bless you for thinking of me! However, I don't have a SC, as I've never really got on with them with our veggie diet. When DP and I were first together, we had one that an elderly aunt had given to him. It was a *top of the range* at the time, but would you believe that you couldn't remove the crock from the electrical bit to wash it  I used it several times to cook meat when we were entertaining meat-eaters, but never used it for our own meals.
However, I know that a lot of MSE'rs have them, so thought I'd mention that the chilli could be cooked in one.
Sorry for my hijack post Tilly - but you have such kind, thoughtful folk visiting your threadAnd I wanted to reply to boultdj - hope you don't mind
