What a turnaround Tilly - right now, you are where I hope to be in 6 years time - i.e. MN, and in 20 months you will be completely FREE (and I'll be doing my smelly ghost stint of still hanging around:o)

    Happy Mothering Sunday :)

Well done on the new and improved Tilly and Mr T - your realisation re. shopping is something that I can relate to. I think I stopped wanting to buy 'stuff' when I realised that there were useful alternatives to spending, like buying my time back :)

Have a lovely Mother's Day, I am sure that you are much appreciated.
  • I started the diary 4 or 5 November 2011 with a whopping mortgage, I felt embarrassed to post and couldn't see what could be done. Boy am I glad I posted :T

It's a hard thing to say but neither of us had grown up. Careers had been important, thus we were tired and used the money for treats, rewards. I went shopping with mum yesterday and I realised the massive changes we've made. I don't need shoes or bags, or clothes to make me feel good or better. Clothes have returned to being practical. Mix and match, create a look and replace or update occasionally.

That's such a good way of putting - you hadn't grown up. Neither had we - we are just about starting to grow up now when it comes to money.

But I'm glad to say I have already achieved some of what you've described above - I don't need clothes and shoes and bags. I want to be financially solvent and have a stable financial future.

Tilly, what you have done / are doing is an inspiration. Have a brilliant Mother's Day. :)

Great to see all these wise and positive posts :T

You are right, it is partly about growing up but also not being defined by what we have and seeing items like clothes, games, books, houses, cars as must haves...rather than really thinking is it worth spending your life energy for many years into the future on these things? If the answer is probably not..don't do it!

Have a great day with your mum and kids. My mum was so touched by her card yesterday, it was such an easy thing to do, I meant what I said in it..and she was so happy. No present just a card. It all shows me how far we have come as a family too...and that sense of 'growth' is one powerful feeling :)

Sorry for warbling on..but it's so nice we are all at, or getting to, the same place...what an amazing place this forum is :)

Hope you have a lovely Mothering Sunday Tilly.
I made my mum a card for today-so much more satisfying to make one. More thought and love and less money. :)

Hope you have a lovely day with your mum and your kids, Tilly. :)

Natty - long time no see. :hello: All OK with you?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

  • Thank you all for your kind and generous posts, you have no idea how much they've helped.

My brain is still on overload but in a good way. I cannot believe this is an option but I've worked out the figures again and it all looks good.

The blog I wanted to start would become a reality and can focus on the things I'm particularly interested in.

Right, I'm off to walk the hounds - beautiful evening, washing dried on the line, tidying up finished and I have a bottle of my favourite wine in the fridge.

I have had two beautiful cards - no gifts at my request, as I'm saving up for something. The kids and Mr T are giving me 'money', IOUs really, for Mothering Sunday, birthday, Christmas and I'm buying a food processor. I had one for years and this now lives in a different country :rotfl: This is all part of the journey we're on. I know how often I used the old one and will be delighted to have one again.

My beautiful daughter had a long talk with me this afternoon and boy, is she capable. Her view is go, grab the money whilst its there and have the time to live my life.

Right, enough waffling, apologies if I'm driving people mad but bear with me.

    Best wishes Tilly x
