Sorry to hear you've had bad news. Hope you're all ok xxx
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Thanks for good wishes. Life can certainly be an @rse at times.

However, this site has enabled all the Tilly household to learn stuff and that's been a fantastic gift.

Even Mr T not working is opportunistic as he's been a brilliant support to both me and mum at a time when we really needed it. He's a rock indeed. Huge heart, always consistent and quietly directing. I'm the noisy one but Mr T is the Tilly household core.

Am feeling in a very reflective mood. I think losing people does that to you and you look around at where you are, where you're going and who you are journeying with. I'm pretty darned thankful Mr T is by my side.

Even though its been a sad weekend, I feel an energy building which is glorious. I'm not up to doing much at the moment and my diary has been pretty flat - apologies - but 2014 will be bringing opportunity, excitement and laughter. How do I know that? Life is what you make it :T

So sorry for your loss Tilly. ((Hugs))
Happy to be of assistance re. Getting your NL book out. :D
I'll let you know how the suggested recipes turn out as and when I manage to organise myself to get some herbs and stuff in. Any suggestions as to best place to shop for herbs etc? I imagine they are expensive in regular supermarket-and that they can be purchased more cheaply somewhere but not sure where. Any suggestions appreciated. TIA
I tend to get most of my herbs and spices from the market - normally good prices but I do tend to check the supermarket prices as well, just in case.

Fresh herbs - I currently have fresh thyme, coriander (almost past it's best though), basil and chilli's growing in the kitchen. All bought at bargainous prices during the last 2-3 months and repotted. Quite often the supermarkets reduce the pots of herbs, plus they can quite often be split then repotted :)

Turning in after watching Sherlock. We are all fairly addicted, even Mr T (rarely watches the TV) won't miss this.

He's currently applying for a few jobs :)

  • Hi Tilly,

    Remember me?
Making a new year's resolution to make some time for the forum. Can you believe it's July since I last posted - where has all that time gone?

Anyway, I'm back on the saving big time as I think I might have a big tax bill coming and you are all so supportive on here so I'm back and I'm staying.

    Catch up soon.

Loving the TK banter - never tried any of his recipes, but seen him on TV.

  • Feedback re TK brined belly pork. Second time of making and perfect crackle. Brining for a day, then drying for a day seemed to do the trick. Also cooked at a higher temp. Would I cook again? Probably not. NL brined turkey never comes out salty and both times the pork has been salty. Menu plan has had to change as it was a large slab of belly pork. The rest is being used for a pie type affair topped with mashed potato, swede and parsnip and eaten this evening.

MCI, thanks for your good wishes :o

No money news as nothing spent. CP additional survey completed. So far have £70 in S&S and CP.

Pouring with rain at the moment but we've had a reasonable day.

  • Just popping on to say hello, after very little time on the forums of late. Sorry to hear your news - but lovely to hear how supportive your family are. I'm am amazed by how much you have reduced your mortgage by since this diary started - £309K to £187k WOW!!

I love how you're meal planning - I'm really awful at it at the moment, OH is shouldering almost all of the cooking responsibility, but with a new job he's got quite a lot on his plate and now the morning sickness is abating I need to step up a bit. Any suggestions for VERY easy meals for busy tired mums? DS hates me being in the kitchen without him but he plays with the oven so I need to spend as little time in there as possible!

Museumworker - how old is your LO? If he's very one could you put him in a seat either on the floor, or better, on the worktop so you can keep an eye on him and get on with whatever you need to do.

If he's a toddler, can he sit on the worktop and "help" you - mine kids used to love to "help", even if it meant more mess to clear up.

If neither of these ideas are any good, how about prepping things in the evening after LO has gone to bed for meals the next day that you can just pop into a slow cooker, eg chilli, curry, stew etc.

    HTH.
