Joining in the lunch chatter a bit late but I have nearly always had a packed lunch. When I met my OH (at uni) he was working part-time in a shop on a pittance, he used to buy something to eat on his break, get a meal deal (or similar) at lunch plus fizzy drinks and chocolate bars and crisps, he'd get paid around £40 for the shift and spend about £15 on food! We soon put a stop to that!
I buy:
-2 loaves of bread per week @ £2.20
-2 packets of turkey slices @ £3
-bag of apples @ £1.50
- few bananas @ £1.50
- 12 bags of crisps @ £3 (max. - usually on offer)
- packet of Kit Kats or similar @ £1.50 (usually less)
= £15 for our lunches for 2 of us for a week. Then top that up with cup-a-soup, YS sausage rolls or at the moment I'm buying less bread and more salad for lunches. But overall its about £15 a week for the two of us for a decent feast!
I too hear people bemoaning prices in the canteen. I buy my lunch at work about 4 times per year and feel like crying when the lunch and a drink comes to more than £5.
I did used to treat myself to a mocha at about £1 per day but when we started cutting back I bought Nescafe Sachets which were less calories and I got about 16 sachets for £5.
We simply don't have the money to buy lunches every day!
(for the record - we are not having salmon tonight)

Morning, just over a week to pay day.
Lodgers money OPd. Yesterday was a NSD and today will be the same.
Salmon was delicious and DD was surprised how easy it was to prepare and cook. I think she is starting to consider how she will feed herself when she goes off to Uni. Bargainous shopping is the way to go.
I didn't get to the ironing at all yesterday. The glorious weather and the likelihood that it was the last excellent weather meant I was not staying in the house. I will get it completed this evening.
Spending diary to be updated from Saturday so I will leave that to Mr Tilly whilst I am ironing.
Work is going to be ridiculous but we have a fab weekend coming up, so I will focus on that to hasten the week along.
I am making a large vat of minced beef and onions in the slow cooker today. It will be portioned and frozen. Part is being used as the base for enchilada's this evening, plus I will make a chilli for tomorrow.
Have a good week and I hope the forecast storms are not too severe.

Hi Tilly
It sounds like you had a lovely weekend and the weather was certainly glorious wasn't it. Today however, it has beeb grey and dark and I had the heating on quite a bit today
I'm sooooo behind with your progress so I hope you are all well and slaying that mortgage, actually, never mind hope, I know you will be slaying it
PS, I've not read the T&C's yet but did anyone notice that Lloyds have launched a new vantage account today with 4% interest rate and the usual terms of cycling in £1000 per month
Tilly, I think I caught you saying you starting to look at savings accounts now. The vantage often flies under the radar as it's a current account but normally pays more interest than savings accounts!
Regards

Hi ATT, thanks for stopping by - I have no USisms to share as they are just driving me mad and I am not listening - says she with her fingers in her ears :rotfl:
I will look at the vantage account, I haven't heard of that one. I am finding it a difficult decision and it is definitely down to emotions not logic. I know the sensible approach is to realise as much cash wherever it is from, but my need to see the numbers come down seems a difficult barrier to overcome. Even Mr Tilly has the same view which makes it doubly difficult. We sat and discussed it this evening funnily enough so I guess it is at the forefront of our minds which is a start.
The heating :eek::eek: don't tell my kids - I refuse to put ours n until 1st October earliest :rotfl:

Absolutely, October at the earliest but probably November! And it'll be switched off early March (baring a really, really cold snap)! In the winter I try to go to the gym, get warm doing exercise, come home, cook, eat and just when I'm cooling off it's bed time so no need for heating till the pipes are at risk of freezing.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.1 -
Hi Tilly,
Not quite being an official MFW (soon though hopefully! :j) I have yet to face the challenge of the "earning more £££ money by being 'sensible' vs. not being 'sensible' and paying off the mortgage to watch the numbers reduce" - however i suspect i will be in the same boat as both you and Mr.T (as well as many others)!!
I suppose what i would review is how much going for the 'more ££/'sensible' option/s would actually save (or is that earn!) against keeping motivation high and reducing the mortgage numbers?
I know with absolute certainty, for me, i would need to see the numbers reduce to keep my mojo :rotfl:
I have sympathy re the heating - i WFH today and the furry socks made an appearanceas i refused to put the heating on :rotfl:!

MRN - i would love to use this method, however this would actually require me going to the gym :rotfl:- and i suspect (as normal) i will be 'layering' up this winter to fend off the cold insteadApril 14 Deposit Target: [STRIKE]£31,660[/STRIKE] £35038/67,620 -[STRIKE] 46.82%[/STRIKE] 51.81% (£15582 to save + £17k from car sale)
