  • Good morning, Friday :T

Packed lunches made and looking forward to it being Friday evening.

I need to check bank account and do a 'tidy up' if necessary. Monday will bring another lodger OP.

Great to know the garden jobs are complete as that means this weekend will be very relaxing :T

Have a fab day and enjoy the weekend.

  • Good afternoon, Friday... I can smell the weekend!

I've also made it a whole week with work lunches (some have raised the eye brows of colleagues but I didn't spend money on lunch!).

You have a fab day too!

  • Hi :j Tilly

My DH always used to buy shop bought lunches but since we saw the light, he has pack ups. He now enjoys making his lunch the night before, as he can decide what he wants and in what combination. I think some of his friends/work mates think he's mad, but when you consider someone else has had there grubby mitts on that slice of bread etc. It certainly becomes more attractive to make your own.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • Oh yes, it freaks me out to think how many people have touched a supermarket sandwich.... Yuk.
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
  • Hi EAD and SSS, when DD was around 7 I bought a sandwich for her from Tesc@ as we were out and about - she was so ill, I thought we were going to have to take her to A&E. That put all of us off ready made sandwiches

What I do more of now for me, is take left overs from the previous evening meal. I cannot believe how many people at work, buy their lunches or coffee, and then sit moaning about not having enough money. I can pretty much guarantee I overhear a conversation like this 2 or 3 times a week.

    Have a good weekend

  • Evening MRN well done on your week of home made lunches - it takes a while to get into it but does save a fortune.

A woman I work with buys a coffee on her way to work £2.50, a sandwich, crisps, coke for lunch let's call that £4 which is beng conservative I guess, then buys another coffee in the afternoon, £2.50 - so £9 a day, £45 a week. Lets assume 48 workng weeks a year £2,160 a year :eek::eek: and she worries about credit card debt, redundancy etc. I don't mean to infer its wrong as it is her choice, but there doesn't seem to be any cause/effect thought.

  • Just musing some more on this, if someone said "I can tell you how to pay over £2k off your debt/mortgage in a year", I would listen. I would never say anything though as MFW thoughts go down like a lead balloon in my experience

I used to buy coffee at work till I worked out how much over a year, only £180 but that was enough for me to stop, now all the loose change is counted up and gets OP'ed

I also haven't bought lunch at work for 20 months, sometimes its a drag making stuff but now in the habit and lucky that we have a microwave at work

My friend who is in debt to the tune of a few thousands is always buying lunch, so I reminder her about her debt like the evil I am :)
