  • Hi TYO, you can buy a packet of salad leaf seeds for around £1.24, giving you enough seeds to plant a pot every week, for weeks. A bag of mixed leaf is around £1 ish. In 6 weeks you could be picking your salad, and that would give you approximately 10 weeks growing time, more really but for the sake of my brain will keep it simple. Let's assume four servings a week at £1 a time (going by my serving size, a bag would do 4) £4/wk, £40/10 weeks. In that time you may use 3 packets of seeds, so an upside of over £36 :j

Worth having a go - best wishes Tilly x

How dare you accuse me of such a thing . It was a 'to do' list. Non-work related obviously. Which I've promptly left at work, so that serves me right :rotfl:. Have remembered quite a bit of it though.

Will look forward to hearing about your project. I think wave power is the way to go, and the way the rain is falling it may be an option inland as well :(.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Morning, woken to dry, pale blue sky.

Working in the office today, am going to finish a bit of ironing before I head in.

NSD planned. I forgot to take anything out of the freezer for dinner so need to get my skates on and pull the HM chicken curry out. Mmmmm.

Dog walk/run in half an hour and looking forward to some fresh air and stretching my legs. Have a good day, Tilly x

Hi Tilly, I've been sent an invitation for shopandsc@n and was wondering whether you could give me any tips/your opinion on it?
I must plant some salad, sure we've got loads of seeds in the house at the mo. Actually, must nag OH til he plants some salad, he's the gardener of the house :rotfl:!

  • Hi THO, I haven't tried growing salads indoors, but I do grow herbs - logically I can't see any reason why they wouldn't work, but quantity would be an issue I guess. If you have any pots upside, then they grow happily in those. Good luck, Tilly x

  • Hi MW, I have found S&S really simple to do, and rewarding. The only thing I would say is to be disciplined. As soon as the shopping is finished on a Friday or Saturday, we scan straight away, and upload the receipt and upload the scanning results. I would say at most it takes 10 mins to scan everything and upload. Given they give you 10k points for joining, which is £10, and surveys with additional points are fairly frequent, then the points build quite quickly.

DS did start out doing the scanning but that didn't last :). From a practical perspective, I unload the bags, scan from pile A, put down in pile B and then the kids and DH put the shopping away:T

Hope the seeds and your OH find each other:)

    Good luck, Tilly x

    Hi Tilly

I planted some lettuce seeds a few weeks ago (all of them in one pot, in one go:o:o) and the leaves are now ready to eat (had some for lunch today - got a real sense of satisfaction from being able to eat something I've grown:D). I thought that if I picked some leaves, more would grow in their place, is that not how it works? I realise now that I've done it all wrong and will follow your advice for next time.

I think someone further back in your thread was asking about rpocket and bolting, mine has bolted too and I've read online that, although known for bolting, rocket is more likely to bolt if it is stressed i.e. over/under watered. Apparently it grows better after the longest day.

I used to do S & S but found there was very little in the catalogues that I needed, so it wasn't really worth my while. If they did amazon vouchers or paypal payments I might consider joining again.

  • Ayeshalush, S&S have quite a wide selection of vouchers. I only ever have Amaz@n as I always buy stuff for Christmas so it is a big help.

On the salad it depends whether it is 'cut and come again' leaves. For that type just cut the leaves close to the base and you will get at least 2 cuttings. A whole pack in a pot must be giving you a very dense carpet of salad :)

Don't forget to plant little and often so you have stuff to pick over the weeks :):)

    Best wishes Tilly x
