I had a beautiful cross collie called Pebbles who I bought for £5 (best £5 I ever spent) in 1997. I loved her so very much and she returned that love 10-fold to me and we spent such happy times together and I taught her so many things, like shaking paw, fetching her dish and little chat time, among other things, and she taught me so very much about the depth & joy of a dogs love.
Sadly, in 2004, due to mental illness and being in hospital I asked a friend to look after Pebbles, he was a male friend and Pebbles was not over keen on men and he let her out into his garden and she found a way out and ran away. I had changed address, and he lived many miles away, so bless her, Pebbles would not have found a way 'home'.
I tried to find her, but due to the distance and the time I had been in hospital, there was no sign.
I never saw Pebbles again and I cried everyday for a long time and still do cry for her often. I could back then and can now, only hope that she found a beautiful and loving home.
I will never forget her and the love we shared and know from looking back then and reading since that many lost dogs are adopted by new families. I feel this is what happened to your beautiful dog, but I will pray that somehow the love the new family feel for your Rory, will make them realise that someone, somewhere loved and taught this old dog to be tender and gentle and that, that will prompt them to try and find you and reunite you with your special old chap.
With tears running down my cheeks now and knowing the acute pain of having a special friend lost. I wish you all the very best of luck in finding Rory. xxxx
I'm so sorry Belladonna. It's so very difficult, and doesn't get easier does it. Many hugs to you.How is your dad now sazzy? Hope he's ok, and you too.
Can't believe Bonfire Night is looming again. I hate it, and God knows how many more pets are going to be absolutely petrified this year like every other time.
He's a lot better thanks ZM. He'll be in hospital for another 8 weeks or so, but at nearly 80-he's whinging fit for 50 people!..lol
I know..I was working it out and it's only a couple of months until it'll be a year since he went.I'm actually getting a bit phobic about fireworks now and if they're on TV, I have to change channel. It's going to be hard on bonfire night- but I really don't want to transfer that anxiety onto Bruce and Zelda. Stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

I can imagine. As soon as someone on here mentioned bonfire fire, I thought of you. You never know, he might get scared of some where he is, and remember his way back0 -

Do you know murphydog, I had the same thought. If it was me, I'd be sitting with the door open again, like you did Sazzy on the night he went missing, just in case he pops back in for his tea!!0 -

Wouldn't that be brilliant! Like if the fireworks this year triggered a memory of last year, and he suddenly remembered where he's supposed to be and comes back home.
Then whoever's been looking after him will be out putting up posters everywhere!0 -
The first lot of fireworks went off around here a few days ago and I thought of you and Ruars as I often do.
I bought the Clix Sounds CD for my pup and played it to him at various volumes for weeks so luckily he doesn't react to them much, just lifts his head as if to say here we go again.
He even wanted his walk in a thunderstorm a month back, we were the only dog walkers out in that funnily enough :rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Thank you all- I did think of that myself, and yes- my door will be open all night. Probably wouldn't be able to sleep anyway..memories.

Oh don't worry- they'll be in bed with their Daddy- as usual, with the bedroom door firmly closed.
If Bruce and Zelda are out in the back garden, I'm always up at the window watching them, and if I have to go to the toilet or do something in the house, Sean watches them. When we're out walking, they're never more than 6 ft from me- apart from when Bruce is fetching his ball.
Once I shouted on Zelda and she didn't come running, couldn't see here anywhere.. looked all over the house and garden- nothing. Was starting to hyperventilate!! Heard a little yip and there she was- halfway up the 2 meter cat tree in one of the hammocks!! She'd climbed up and because she's so tooty, she'd curled up in the hammock and I couldn't see her!! Fast asleep and yipping in a dream. Little cow, giving me heart failure!Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x
