I'm not offended at all, I know there are probably 10 fake people out there to every perhaps genuine one, and I have an open mind about it too, so don't worry, it was just another line that was all. Anything that might help.
I wouldn't have thought he was hiding in bushes near water in this weather at all, he was a dog used to living in a home, much more likely to have sought out some sort of shelter and someone to feed him, fingers crossed he's found or finds his way back soon.

I don't think there's any way he's hiding anywhere without human intervention and assistance. In the absence of any bad news from the authorities we can only assume someone has taken him in.

Years ago, I was working at a sheepdog trial and my dog had been on the stand with me all weekend, he was getting on a bit then, probably about 9 -10 years old, we were loading the van and my dog had been asleep at the back of the stall.
It started to get dusk and suddenly, I noticed he wasn't there. Panic set in, I think he'd just woke up and decided to go for a wee, probably started sniffing, as they do, lots of interesting smells, people, dogs, sheep etc. and had wandered a bit too far and with the duskm couldn't see where he had come from.
Myself and my partner were frantically shouting him and wandering the field with torches, we put the van lights on so he could perhaps find his way back to the lights.
There was a wooded area at the side of the hill we were on and I was hoping he hadn't gone into there as he would be harder to find than on an open hillside.
It got very dark because we were on the side of Kinder Scout with no nearby street lights. I was determined I wasn't leaving the field without him, even if it meant me staying up there all night.
All of a sudden, out of the darkness, a little kiddies voice said, "Have you lost a dog?", I shouted back, "Yes, have you seen him?" That little boy said the sweetest words I wanted to hear, he said, "Yes, he's following me!!" The joy of those words can't be described and the relief I felt.
He must have lost his way back to me, but luckily, there was a family at the bottom of the field we were on, also still packing up. He obviously saw some people and went to them for help and latched onto them. He followed this little boy all the way back up the hill to me.

I think Ruars has latched on to people, he has always known people that have looked after him and fed him. He would have tried to find somebody to help him I am sure.
Someone out there knows where he is, there has not been any bad news of him, it is just a matter of finding who has got him and letting them know.

I hope you get good news soon, my dog was probably only missing for half an hour but it ranks as one of the worst half hours of my life.

I so want to come on her and see "He's been found". Somebody must be looking after him, as others have said. I agree that as the weather is now getting better it would be worth putting up fresh posters everywhere. And perhaps contact everybody you originally contacted to say he's still missing and can they run the story again. It will only take one person to be the missing link to all of this. Keep your chin up Sazzy, I think you have been amazingly strong and brave, although I don't suppose you think you have. I can only imagine how you must be feeling. I lost my old boy a year last October and still miss him dreadfully. I'm off to light another candle, it can't do any harm. xx

Every time I look on the Pet Board I always hope to see this thread title updated to 'Found'. I remember reading this thread on the night it was posted and really though Ruar would be found within a few days. I can't believe it's coming up to four month since Ruar went missing and he is still not home but each day that passes is a day closer to being reunited with him.

The not knowing must be torture. It must be so hard to stay positive - I know I wouldn't be able to stay positive and all sorts of thoughts would be running through my mind. However, I really do think Ruar is being cared for by someone who is unaware he slipped his lead and has a loving owner looking for him. We just have to remember that these stories can have a happy ending even after months/years but I really hope you don't have to wait much longer.

I hope he is safe and being looked after wherever he is and you both will be reunited soon.

Thanks guys..bit of a downer last night. On doglost-there is a chocolate lab called Percy who had been missing since 20th October, loads of sightings-supposedly. But the found his body yesterday :( Been at the bridge for a while.

I don't know why I was so upset. There had been so many sightings etc, that everyone was sure he was alive, but it turned out not to be. What was keeping me going was the fact that Ruars body hadn't been found, so was easy to think that someone had him.. but after Percys story, being found after all that time sort of dropped my hopes to my boots.

Although it sounds horrible- I'm happy for Percys owner that they finally have closure, and can grieve-rather than be in limbo. That's the most horrible feeling in the world.
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them :)

So sad for Percy and his owners :(

Limbo really is a horrid place to be Sazzy, I wish I had words of comfort for you. The not knowing is the worst part.

I saw Percy's story on doglost sazzy. Very sad. But as you say at least it's closure for his poor owners.

I still think someone has Ruaridh though. May even know he's missing and be unwilling to give him up.

That's why it's important to check out dogs your neighbours may have acquired since Ruaridh went missing, or old dogs being walked on leads...just in case.
