Could you put an appeal on your local radio and/or paper? (Sorry if you already have). Or in something like 'The countrymans weekly', which is for farmer types,as i think you said that you live in a rural area? I am sorry to mention this but could you ask the council if they have moved any animals from the side of the road (sorry just thinking of all options for you to try)?
Still praying the old boy will be home with you asap x.

    Thanks again for the support.

Mely- don't worry about saying that- I'm in constant touch with the council. In fact If I don't phone them-they phone me-just to let me know there's been nothing, or to find out if there's any news. The lady (Karena I think) has been wonderful from Tech Services, and checks with the drivers every day when they bring their trucks back at the end of shift.

I saw on Doglost that a lot of them are advertised in Countrymans weekly, but-I don't know why-I thought it was an 'English' magazine. Until the other day that is when I saw a Scottish dog being advertised in it for the first time. So thank you-I'll try that.

It's hard to keep going, to keep positive, but I have to, WE have to. It would be doing Ruars a massive dis-service if I gave up. He deserves everything I can do for him.

I cant imagine what you are going through and i admire your strength! x
I am in Wales so it sounds like countrymans weekly is sold throughout the U.K. It is definately worth putting a notice in it as it has a high readership of a certain type that may know something.
I think of you each day, and even my hubby asks me if there is any news yet.
Keep going, your old boy is in so many peoples thoughts and my gut feeling is that he will be back with you soon x
    More prayers today x

We all have to keep positive for him, we all have to keep willing him to find his way home.
I have no idea where he is, unless he is in that barn somewhere you were told about but as you have never had any reports of him being found dead or injured and none of the local vets have heard anything, I do still believe he is alive somewhere. Whether or not it is possible to get the message through to whoever has got him, is another matter. You and everyone else just has to keep passing the word around in the hope it will get through to where ever he is. Is the walking group still looking out for him?

Keeping me busy Candy :D She's a feisty little Madam (don't know where she gets THAT from!) and it's funny to see this big broad Staffy getting chased out of his bed by a 2 inch high JRT. I'm forever telling him to stand up for himself, but no, if she wants his dinner, he moves aside then sits and waits for her to finish.

I just say to him 'Well now you know how Ruars felt when you were that young' I'm so proud of him, he's so gentle. Would like to think he learnt that from the old man. :)

  • Sazzy, not being Scottish, I have no idea what Ruar's name sounds like and I would like to be able to pronounce/say his name correctly. Can you possibly say/spell it out for us peeps south of the border? Thx :)

I was trying to put myself in the position of someone having found Ruars and how I would know how to get him home.
Perhaps others could do the same and it might give some clues as to what could be done to make anyone who had found him aware he was being looked for if they hadn't heard.

If I had of seen an old, obviously well looked after dog alone and probably distressed, I would have taken it in.
Obviously the first thing I would have looked for would be a collar, but he had slipped that. Then I would have taken him to the vet's to be scanned and to ask if they recognised him, but he wasn't chipped, so no clue there.
I presume at the age he is, he would be well behaved and in need of comfort.
I would report having found him to the police, dog warden and the RSPCA and to any rescues I knew about in my area, the important word there is knew about, because not everyone might know of many in their area, I don't.
I would tell them I had got him but as he looked old, I would not have taken him to a rescue, but given him home comforts instead and fostered him until I found his owner.
I would also have looked out for lost dog posters and ads in local shops. The problem being, he could have wandered a long way and not been advertised as being lost in the area I found him.
I am obviously on the Internet, but not everyone is. Even if they are, not everyone knows of this site or would think of looking to see if it had a pet's thread. Although I am now on everyday just to see if he's turned up, I often spend months not coming on here at all - so this thread wouldn't have told me.
I'm also not on any of the social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc, - so wouldn't know from them either.
I don't buy or read newspapers, I don't often have magazines, especially any that would carry lost and found ads - so again, wouldn't know from there either.
Since tv went digital I haven't been able to watch live tv, just watch things on i-player, so don't get local news programmes either, nor do I listen to the radio much.

So how would anyone be able to get the message to me?
