I agree with the others, you need to take charge. Personally I would be telling her that things are going to change and that it will happen on a set date... I would change the monthly pocket money to weekly ie a tenner a week or whatever and tell her that she will only get her cash if her room is 'acceptable'. And you need to have a conversation as to the definition of what is acceptable. I would buy her some wipes and a stack of black bin bags, you will need them
Failing that I have resorted in the past to sitting on my daughters bed giving directions and holding the black bags - this was only when she felt a bit overwhelmed by the mess!! lolLight Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
Time to get serious with her. There's some great suggestions on here. I say cut off her allowance. She should be working PT.0

That's a brilliant idea! Seriously, you know when everything gets on top of you and you have no idea where to start because you're so overwhelmed and hibernate? I used to do this all the time (and sometimes still do) and it's not always just mess, sometimes its paperwork/emotions whatever, and you need someone to take charge and break it down bit by bit.
If anyone was seriously in debt, the only way to deal with it was bitesize chunks right?0 -
I have asked my own messy daughter whay has helped her in getting tidier, and she said it was when we put her alundry bin outside of her room onto the landing. For her the idea of a bin of dirty clothes in her room was worse than having the strewn around, but seeing the full bin triggers a response to put some washing on.
We never go into her room. She is now 23 and it is no longer a pigsty...but it has taken a long time.0 -
My daughter is exactly the same, i waste so much of my time
telling her to clean up after herself it drives me nuts.
However once when she pulled the 3weeks worth of washing in one go i binned most of it:D
I also tell her how much im going to enjoy her pocket money:p
