**They returned and we captured them on CCTV! See post 26**

3 weeks ago we changed our car and other half chose a nice little Astra 1.9 CDTi SRi. Lovely little car. He came home from work last night, parked up at 5.30pm then nipped down to pick up some food at 7.30pm, within those 2 hours some thieving little scrote came on to our drive armed with a screwdriver and removed the silver colour coded backs to the mirrors. Happy to say scumbag broke one in his rush to remove it.

Had a drive around the estate and saw another Astra TDi in black missing its mirrors as well, knocked on and spoke to the guy and his were stolen last week. (and no, we dont think it was him!). As black and silver seem to be fairly common colours I'm assuming scumbags are nicking these to order, especially as the rarer burgundy Astra across the road was untouched and our scrotes came tooled up.

CCTV System going in today, but nothing short of amazed at the things they will steal. Slightly worried now that they may be back for other parts such as the badges or spoiler etc.

Anyone else experienced their mirrors being nicked?

No, up in Stoke. Believe me I'm keeping an eye on eBay, Gumtree etc. I'm sure these are being stolen to sell, didn't actually realise how expensive they were until I tried to source replacements last night. Needless to say we will be replacing with plain black plastic ones rather than the colour coded.

a tip for you as their just clipped in rather than screwed or bolted in, place a good dollop of super glue on the clip ends, masking tape the backing plate tight to the mirror for 15 mins to make sure the glue goes off hard and a good contact dont bead the glue round the edges of the plate as it will leave white marks around your mirror.

Thanks, will do. They broke the OS one because half the clips are still stuck in the car. This pleases me :D

Whats concerning me a little now is are they planning on coming back for the badges or the spoiler etc? OH is picking up a CCTV Camera this morning but I'm so annoyed.

'first to see will buy'. I wonder how many people turn up, have a look and tell him that they've arranged to have a look at some others as well
  • When the cost of buying an item vastly outweighs any potential punishment for nicking it (or supplying different things), assuming anyone in authority is in the least bothered in the first place, this is what happens and eventually culminate in the events of earlier in the year.

It's too late to stop the likes of who do this, all you can do is make it difficult if not dangerous to get into your property unlawfully, spiked gates and railings for a start.

CCTV is fine assuming you can get someone to look at it and do something.

The people who made the decisions to allow this type of thing to go unchecked for generations live in walled exclusive areas, this type of thing doesn't happen to them, if it did they'd just put it on expenses and we the taxpayer pay the cost anyway.

You have to feel sorry for the thieves in a way, nothing to live for and no ambition except the next trinket, i phone or fix bought with stolen goods, no manners, code of behaviour or standards taught to them by their parents, nothing of worth to pass onto their children if they ever meet them, if as likely they are males they'll never meet a proper woman worth having who'll give them a second glance.

We get an awful lot of mercedes sprinters nicked and broken down for parts.
A lot of vehicles are worth more in pieces than whole
  • Nothing surprises me. I had just sorned my red rover in 2003 and parked it on the road opposite, when I went to work, 1st day as well. Came home car not there. OH saw it being towed away and thought I had arranged to have it taken away, so thought nothing of it. When he got home, I asked where car was, Big OH! You could see the cogs clicking into gear. Rang the cop shop and explained it to them. Never heard a cop laugh so hard. He said if we find any bits left, where'd you like them returned to? Oh says I, don't want it back at all, If they'd have asked they could have had the key and driven it onto the low loader for free. He laughed some more, but said why did you ring, well I only just sorned it this morning, so I thought there had better be a rcord somewhere official as to why it may turn up on a roadside or somewhere and not where I'd left it. Gave me a crime number and ended call. Never heard another thing about it. Sometimes thieves work in mysterious ways.

The problem we have is our home is 3 storey with a garage underneath and front door at first floor, hard to describe but there is a balcony over the garage which does take some view out of the front window. The front gardens are also open plan so we cant put gates there etc (this isnt my house I add!)

Hopefully we can angle a few CCTV cameras to keep an eye out. Police said there were no other reports in the area (the guy down the road has now assured me he will be reporting his theft now he knows about ours). Got a crime number and no more can be done now.
  • Around Birkenhead last year people were stealing the small boot lip spoilers from Vectra's and selling them on eBay, listed as "various colours available"

So, obviously colours were stolen to order lol.
