Ok tried to install avast in !E, says set-up-av-free was reported as unsafe.

No it wont. I'm going to leave it for tonight, I am very tired. Thank you for your help and patience. I don't know whether to try again tomorrow or just attempt to use the recovery discs, I am nervous of this in case i go wrong, which is highly probable. Thank you again.

Both Malware and avast are coming up as unsafe in IE, have done as you said set IE to default and still the same. I have all day free, shall I try the recovery discs? I am unsure abt (among other things) bios settings, setting it to default, and the sound mute, turning that off beofre it starts the recovery process? I have unistalled firefox(though not bookmarks etc) IE seems a lot smoother/quicker, firefox has not been right for a while,was wondering/hoping this was something to do ith the problems?
